Don’t do this if you want your back pain to settle

If your lower back keeps flaring up… read this.

Don’t just “rest until it feels better”.
Because what happens?

You feel okay.
You go back to normal.
It comes straight back.

Sound familiar?

Back pain usually isn’t about one movement.
It’s about how your body handles load over time.

Too much sitting.
Then straight into training.
No prep.

Instead…
Keep moving.
Reduce the load slightly.
Build it back up properly.

That’s how you break the cycle.
👉 Does your back pain keep coming back?

Lovely week away in Pembrokeshire.

Lots of dog walks.
A dip in the sea.
A few long runs.

Exactly what I needed.

The coast paths were stunning... although some were so overgrown I came back looking like one giant walking grass seed. Swipe for evidence.

It was a good reminder that recovery isn’t always about doing less.
Sometimes it’s getting outside.
Moving your body.
Taking a break from the usual routine.

I always tell my clients that recovery should help you get back to doing the things you enjoy. Whether that’s running, walking the dog, training in the gym or just feeling more comfortable day to day.

A few days away, plenty of fresh air and some miles on the legs. Ready to get back into the clinic tomorrow.

What have you got planned this year that gets you outside, moving and doing more of what you enjoy?

Running the Great West Run 2026… or know someone who is?

Whether you’re taking on the 10k or the half marathon, your body’s going to feel it afterwards.

Tight calves.
Heavy legs.
Achy hips.
That “walking downstairs sideways” feeling.

To help with recovery, I’m offering 15% off all treatments for a limited time.

All you need to do is get booked in and bring your finisher medal to your appointment to claim the discount.

Valid for finishers of both the 10k and half marathon routes.

Limited availability available around race week, so don’t leave it too late.

DM me to get booked in.

And tag your running buddy so they don’t miss out too.

If you’ve ever struggled with tight calves, this will help

Tight calves that never seem to loosen off?

Stretching them every night…
but no real change?

Here’s why.

Calves get tight when they’re overworked.
Running more.
Walking more.
Standing all day.

Or… they’re picking up the slack from somewhere else.
Ankles not moving well.
Tight hamstrings.
So the calves just keep working.

Instead of just stretching them…
ask why they’re doing so much.
That’s where things actually change.

👉 Are your calves always tight no matter what you do?

“Feel like you’ve got knots that never quite go away?”

That’s exactly what this client came in with.

Tight areas.
Stiff spots.
That constant feeling of things needing a proper sort out.

So we worked through the problem areas.
Took the time to find what was actually tight…
Not just where it felt sore.

Because “knots” aren’t always as simple as they seem.

Sometimes it’s overworked muscle.
Sometimes it’s compensation from somewhere else.

Either way - it needs more than a quick once over.

Targeted soft tissue work.
Focused treatment.
Getting into what actually needs it.

If you’re walking around feeling tight, stiff, or restricted…

“I’ll rest and it’ll settle.”

Sometimes rest helps.

But if you’ve rested before and it came straight back…
That tells you something.

Pain that keeps returning usually isn’t a rest problem.
It’s a capacity problem.

The tissues aren’t coping with what you’re asking of them.

So we build that capacity back up.

Gradually.
Properly.
Without telling you to stop everything you enjoy.

You don’t need to sit still for 6 months.
You need a plan.

5 things your body needs if you’re training regularly

Training hard but always feeling tight?

Here’s what most people miss:

1. Recovery isn’t optional
If you’re loading your body, you need to unload it too

2. Sleep matters more than you think
Late nights = slower recovery

3. Warm-ups need to match what you’re doing
Not just 5 mins on a bike

4. Mobility doesn’t mean random stretching
It needs to be targeted

5. Small ni**les need attention early
Not when they stop you training

Most people in my Exeter clinic don’t need more training…
They need better recovery.

👉 Which one are you ignoring right now?

“Want a massage… or do you actually want it sorted?”

This client came in with an injury.

First thing we did?
Talk it through properly.
Assess what was going on.
Not just jump straight into treatment.

Because if you don’t understand the problem,
you’re guessing.

Then the hands-on work.
Targeted.
Focused on what actually needed it.

They felt a difference straight away.

But it doesn’t stop there.

They also left with rehab advice they could actually use.
Simple.
Doable.
Built around their routine.

That’s how you get results that last.
If you’re local to Exeter or Poltimore and dealing with an injury or ongoing ni**le…

“I can’t take time off training.”

You don’t have to.

I’m a big believer in keeping active people, active. If you’ve got a ni**le, we look at ways to train around it - safely.

Because stopping completely can sometimes set you back more than the injury itself.

You can still move. You can still train. You just need to be smart about how.

👉 Message “INFO” if you’ve been avoiding treatment because you’re scared it’ll mean time off.
