It can sound strange, even frightening, to intentionally go back to things youâve spent so long trying to cope with, avoid, or push away. For many, it feels easier to keep the lid on and carry on.
But therapy isnât about reliving the pain for the sake of it.
Itâs about giving those experiences the space to be gently understood, processed, and held differently, often for the first time. When that happens, something can begin to shift. The memories donât disappear, but they can lose their grip.
Many people describe it as coming out the other side, not because the past is erased, but because it no longer feels quite so heavy to carry.
