There will be a partial solar eclipse occurring today, which coincides with the peak of the largest meteor shower in the year.

Having two significant astronomical events of this type occurring on the same day is extremely rare and will never occur again.

This sky show begins at 6:15pm as the Moon passes in front of the Sun, with 94% of the Sun obscured by the Moon at 7:12pm, before the Moon leaves the face of the Sun at 8:06pm.

Grab a kitchen colander, stand with your back to the sun, and look at the ground to see dozens of mini crescent shadows projected through the holes! Fun 😊 👍 😊

✨✨ Perseid Meteor Shower – Peaks 12th August.

As darkness falls this evening, look to the night skies as the Perseid Meteor shower peaks. 🌠✨🌟✨🌠

... as midnight approaches, the number of shooting stars will dramatically increase. There will be around 150 meteors per hour during this peak and may appear as bright and fast meteors with smoking trails.

🌕 The Full Buck Moon 🌕

29th August

The Full Buck Moon rises as nature reaches the height of summer, taking its name from the period when young stag deer begin developing their new antlers.
Covered in soft velvet and growing steadily each day, they serve as a reminder that true strength is cultivated over time, developing patiently through each season.

This moon invites thoughtful reflection:
✨ Where have I experienced growth?
✨ What am I prepared to embrace next?
✨ Which aspects of myself require care and patience rather than urgency?

Just as the stag does not compare his antlers to another’s, there is no need to measure our progress against that of others. Growth can be subtle.

Last day of school here in Wales, and my Hunter Bertie's last day in primary school 🎒

A future herbalist, with a creative flair to life, a loving of meeting friends, music, cats and orcas. This incredible little boy will go far. He's so brave and sees positives in all corners of the world 🌍 what a smashing journey!
Congratulations 👏 to everyone moving up and on, and here's to our new challenges and chapters set out before us.

Everything is written and the universe provides only wonderful possibilities if you grab them with both hands.

🌑✨ The Great Welsh Solar Eclipse – 12th August 2026 ✨🌞

On Wednesday 12th August, the skies above Wales will put on an unforgettable display as a partial solar eclipse covers around 94% of the Sun in some parts of the country.

The Moon will slowly veil the Sun, turning late afternoon into an eerie twilight.

🌒 Approximate times in Wales (BST): ✨ Eclipse begins: 6:13 pm

🌘 Maximum eclipse: around 7:12–7:13 pm 🌕 Ends: 8:07 pm

This will be the deepest eclipse visible from Wales since 1999, and one many of us may only witness once in a lifetime.

The further west you are, the more dramatic the view is expected to be.

⚠️ Remember to use certified eclipse glasses or a safe viewing method—never look directly at the Sun. 🌞🕶️

🌿 The myths and magic...
For thousands of years, eclipses were seen as moments when the veil between worlds became thin.
🐺 In Norse mythology, the wolf Sköll chases the Sun, and an eclipse was believed to happen when he almost caught it.
🐉 Across parts of Asia, dragons were thought to swallow the Sun, while communities made loud noises to scare them away.
🌿 Celtic traditions often viewed eclipses as sacred turning points—a pause in nature's rhythm, inviting us to release what no longer serves us before the light returned stronger than before.
