Let me tell you about the baby who really didn’t want to come out! Born at 42 weeks + 5 days, on International Midwives Day 🤩

Before labour started, at 41 weeks, I began having membrane sweeps. I think we did around 4 or 5 in total, hoping it would help get things moving. It gave me a few contractions here and there, but nothing regular until Tuesday 5th.
That morning, at 3am I woke up with contractions. They gradually became stronger and more regular. Just after 8am I asked my husband to call the Homebirth Team because contractions were coming every 3–4 minutes. Naomi and Anita arrived and examined me — I was already 5cm dilated, and my waters still hadn’t broken.
For the next 4 hours, contractions were very up and down while I tried movement, resting, dancing,and breathing techniques. The midwives examined me again, and I was still 5cm dilated. They offered to break my waters if I wanted to. I was a little apprehensive because I didn’t know whether it would hurt, but it wasn’t painful at all. As soon as my waters were broken, contractions went from manageable to incredibly intense almost immediately. Things moved so quickly after that.
I got into the birth pool, had just a few contractions, and suddenly felt the urge to push. I really struggled at that point, but 3 pushes later our baby boy was here!!!! 🤍
Baby arrived only ONE hour after my waters were broken! He came out with his head and left elbow together, and had the cord wrapped around his arm first and then around his neck. Once the cord was removed, he was placed straight onto my chest. My husband and I were completely overjoyed...'
