Vintage Biba Velvet

My favourite way to stay warm when winter is on its way out but March is refusing to warm up!

As you know, I don't save clothes "for best" anymore. So I have many velvet pieces as part of my every day wear.
I picked up this vintage Biba trouser suit on

The trouser fit wasn't great, but my amazing tailor worked her magic and this suit is now a purple dream to wear.
If you buy vintage definitely invest in a good tailor 👍🏽

I asked her to not only tweak the fit, but add a second button hole to the jacket (I changed the original for vintage buttons , added turn ups to the trouser leg
(I love a turn up on a trouser 😊) and...voila!

Accessories can turn up or tone down the mood of this look and of course the separates can be mixed and matched with my other wardrobe pieces.

Just Wear the Red Pants!

Happy Valen...oh wait, that was last Sunday 🤦🏽‍♀️

Special occasions like Valentines have somewhat high jacked the colour red.

So we save those red outfits 'for best.'

It's a phrase my mom used often when, as a wee slip of a girl, I would ask to wear my shiny new Mary Jane shoes to school. And when I asked her why she had a suitcase of carefully tissue wrapped clothes under the bed.

"You save them for best" she would say. Many of us will remember the clothes that were for saved for 'Sunday Best'
Yes, that was a thing!

The sad part is, my mom passed and most of those clothes were never worn.
I guess we didn't have enough 'best' days.

It's one of my earliest memories of fashion, and I knew even then, that if I ever owned such pretty things, I wouldn't wait for a 'best' day to wear them.

I was reminded of this memory recently by a post by who echoed my thoughts about wearing the clothes that make YOU feel your best, whenever you want to!

Red was my mom's favourite colour.

So wear the red pants!
The red blouse.
Your favourite shoes.

Because every time you greet another day, is the very best day to wear them ❤

Elegance...isn't only found in high end labels.

This vintage velvet maxi skirt may have a print that you wouldn't immediately consider for an elegant wardrobe,
yet the simplicity of its lines and the quality of the fabric does. As does its length.

And your wardrobe needs to have practical, more casual day wear pieces that still stay true to your style. I need to be able to run errands and still look cute! 😆

The fitted corduroy shirt with pearlised buttons is nicely structured and balances the weightyness of the velvet fabric whilst keeping the clean line.

This is also going to look fabulous with my navy roll neck.

Beanies are so 2020 😉

Hats can be tricky when you have a pixie cut like mine. A lot of headwear requires hair to show beneath the hat in order to maintain a feminine look, unless you're going for an androgynous style, which is not a bad thing but not for everyone!

It's a vintage number - yes I'm still obsessed with vintage and thrifted pieces. Probably always will be 🤷🏾‍♀️ as they will always add uniqueness to an outfit.

Paired with my boxy oatmeal coat and caramel tones it's going to be a real show stealer! 😊

Cosy as a kitten wearing mittens! 😁

A faux fur hat is an essential addition to my winter wardrobe.
My pixie cut wouldn't survive the chill of Jan-Feb without one!

This Ocelot Pillbox Hat is fleece lined so ears are as snug as a bug in a rug!

Spice it up with an off the shoulder version, simple gold earrings, nail polish a n**e lippy and you're good to ... stay in 🤷🏾‍♀️😊
