The summer holidays are here… and sometimes the best adventures are hiding right outside the back door. 🐞🐸🌸

A funny little beetle who feels nobody loves him.
A frog who is rather flatter than the other frogs.
A whole family of prickly thistles.
And Lily — an extraordinary real and rare pink grasshopper! 💗

My children’s books are full of the creatures, plants and tiny wonders we might walk past every day without really noticing.

They’re funny, colourful stories, but tucked amongst the adventures are gentle messages about friendship, kindness, being different, loving yourself and appreciating nature.

And perhaps they might inspire a little summer adventure of your own…

🌿 Where do my book ideas come from?

This one started on an ordinary walk.

I noticed a patch of thistles growing quietly by the path. Most people walked straight past them. Some probably thought they were just weeds.

But I found myself wondering…

What if they were a family?

By the time I got home, Grandma Thistle, Mama, Papa, and twins Pip and Poppy had all appeared in my imagination.

That’s one of the things I love most about writing. The ordinary becomes extraordinary if we stop and look a little closer.

I hope The Thistle Family reminds children that kindness can be found in unexpected places—and that being different is something to treasure.

🌿 They’re only thistles… or are they? 💜

I’m so excited to share my newest children’s book with you…

The Thistle Family 🌿

For years, I’ve walked past thistles without giving them a second thought.

But what if they had a family?

A kind Grandma.

A gentle Mama.

A strong Papa.

And two curious little twins called Pip and Poppy.

This little story reminds children that you don’t have to be like everyone else to be special.

Sometimes the things people overlook are quietly making the world a better place.

I hope The Thistle Family encourages little ones to look a little closer at nature… because magic is often hiding in the most ordinary places.

✨ Something magical is swimming this way… 🐠🐌

I’ve started writing my next children’s book, and I think I’ve fallen in love with one of the characters already… ❤️

Meet Percy.

He’s a tiny snail with a very important job…

He’s the official housekeeper of Ralphy’s magical fish tank! 🧹🐌

Percy loves everything neat and tidy. He polishes every pebble, sweeps every shell, and quietly looks after all his underwater friends.

He does grumble a little…

“Honestly… those frogs have made muddy footprints again!” 😂

Alongside Percy are two mischievous frogs, Freddie and Fergus, a gentle tiger fish called Theodore, little Poppy the Pufferfish, and a whole cast of colourful tropical friends who come to life when Ralphy goes to sleep.

I have a feeling Percy might just steal everyone’s hearts. 💙

If all goes to plan, Ralphy and the Magical Fish Tank will be swimming onto Amazon at the end of July.

I can’t wait to introduce you to the rest of the gang over the coming weeks!

When I read this review, I honestly smiled from ear to ear.

Knowing a little girl loved Mabel and Tilly – Dinosaurs Can Dance so much that she took it to bed and wanted it read again first thing in the morning is the greatest compliment I could receive.

Sometimes the best stories come from the simplest ideas.

❤️ Things Ralphy has taught me…

When I started writing stories inspired by my grandson, I never imagined how much he would teach me in return.

Children have a wonderful way of finding magic in everyday moments, and I think we grown-ups could learn a thing or two from them.
