The biggest pregnancy exercise myth I want to kill?

That pregnancy automatically means you need to stop exercising.

It doesn’t.

For most women with an uncomplicated pregnancy, staying active is encouraged.

But here’s where the nuance matters…

Pregnancy isn’t the time to blindly follow the programme you were doing before you conceived.

Your body is changing. Your energy can change. Your balance changes. Your symptoms can change. And what feels comfortable in week 8 might feel completely different in week 28.

So the answer isn’t:

“Stop.”

And it isn’t:

“Carry on regardless.”

It’s:

ADAPT.

You might reduce the load.
You might change an exercise.
You might take longer rests.
You might reduce intensity.
You might change your range of motion.

That’s not weakness.

That’s smart training.

And no, you don’t need to earn your way back into your pre-pregnancy body by training harder.

Your body is doing something extraordinary.

Train to support it. 🌿

Save this for the days when pregnancy makes you question whether you should move at all.

And always speak to your midwife, GP or maternity team if you have a pregnancy complication, have been advised to restrict activity, or you’re unsure what is appropriate for you.

This is general education, not individual medical advice.

Collagen seems to be recommended for almost everything during pregnancy and after birth… but does the evidence support the claims?

I think it’s really important to separate marketing from science.

Collagen is often promoted as something that can:
• Prevent stretch marks
• Speed up postpartum recovery
• Strengthen the pelvic floor
• Stop postpartum hair loss

When you look at the research, the picture is much more balanced.

There is some promising evidence that collagen supplements may help with skin hydration, joint health and possibly wound healing, but there isn’t strong evidence that they prevent stretch marks, stop postpartum hair loss or strengthen the pelvic floor.

For me, the most important message is this:

The biggest gains still come from the basics.

✔️ Eat enough high-quality protein.
✔️ Fuel your body well.
✔️ Strength train appropriately.
✔️ Give yourself time to recover.

Supplements can have a place, but they work best when they’re supporting solid foundations rather than trying to replace them.

Have you used collagen during pregnancy or after having a baby? I’d genuinely love to hear what your experience was.

Does collagen actually work… or is it just clever marketing?

The answer is more interesting than you might think.

Most people believe the collagen they drink goes straight to their skin. That’s not actually what happens.

Your digestive system breaks it down into amino acids and small peptides. Researchers believe some of those peptides may then signal your skin cells to produce more collagen naturally.

Studies suggest collagen supplements can improve skin hydration and elasticity over time, but the benefits are probably more modest than many adverts would have you believe.

For me, the biggest takeaway is this:

No supplement can replace the fundamentals.

If you’re not getting enough protein, strength training regularly, sleeping well and protecting your skin from the sun, collagen isn’t going to work miracles.

Supplements should be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself.

Have you tried collagen? I’d genuinely like to know whether you noticed a difference or whether you think it’s mostly hype.

Two women. Similar starting weights, completely different outcomes. One trains to build strength, muscle, and resilience. The other has never touched a weight.

Same number on the scale. Worlds apart in health, energy, and how they move through life.

Here’s what I want every woman reading this to understand: being “skinny” was never the goal — being strong is.

Strength training doesn’t just change your shape. It changes:
✅ How your joints and bones hold up over decades
✅ How your metabolism works for you, not against you
✅ How much energy you have for the life you actually want to live
✅ How confident you feel walking into a room

If you’ve spent years chasing a smaller number instead of a stronger body, this is your sign to change the goal.

Composition over the scale. Strength over shrinking. Every single time.

Ready to build the second version of yourself? That’s exactly what I help women do.
I offer in person and online coaching just for women! Choose the best type of training to fit your schedule.

✨ Your body created life. It deserves movement that helps it heal, strengthen and thrive. ✨

When you become a mum, your body changes in incredible ways. It’s not about “getting your body back”. It’s about building a body that feels strong, capable and confident for the years ahead.

Pilates is one of my favourite forms of exercise for postnatal women because it can help:

🤍 Rebuild deep core strength
🤍 Strengthen your pelvic floor
🤍 Improve posture after hours of feeding and carrying your little one
🤍 Reduce back, neck and shoulder aches
🤍 Improve balance and stability
🤍 Increase flexibility and mobility
🤍 Reconnect your mind and body
🤍 Build strength without high-impact movements
🤍 Support confidence as you return to exercise

Every postnatal journey is different, so always seek medical clearance before returning to exercise and listen to your body every step of the way.

Strong doesn’t have to mean intense.
Sometimes the quiet, controlled movements create the biggest transformation. 💛

Have you ever tried Pilates? I’d love to know your experience in the comments. ⬇️

Wow this really got me!
I hope my body stays strong and able enough to allow me to do the things I love.

Exercise to be strong, not skinny.
