Have you ever noticed that some days you feel able to cope with life's ups and downs, while on other days even small things can feel overwhelming?

Our nervous system works within what is often called the "Window of Tolerance" – the zone where we feel more able to think clearly, manage emotions, and respond rather than react.

When we're pushed outside of this window, we might notice:

🔹 Feeling anxious, panicky, irritable, or overwhelmed.

Or perhaps:

🔹 Feeling numb, disconnected, exhausted, or wanting to withdraw.

These responses are not signs of weakness. They are ways our mind and body try to protect us when we are under stress.

Learning to recognise when we are moving outside of our window can help us respond with greater understanding and self-compassion.

Sometimes what we need isn't to push harder, but to pause, rest, reconnect, or reach out for support.

Wherever you find yourself today, remember that you don't have to navigate it alone.

Even when life appears to carry on as normal, it's not unusual to find yourself feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply not quite like yourself.

Sometimes there isn't one big reason. It can be the accumulation of stress, responsibilities, or trying to keep everything going for everyone else.

Whatever you're carrying, you don't have to make sense of it all on your own.

Counselling offers a confidential and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

As the days start to feel a little lighter and we move through the changing seasons, it’s a reminder that many of us notice shifts in our mood and energy too.

For some, this time of year can feel uplifting. For others, it can bring its own challenges. Especially when life still feels busy or emotionally full.

If things feel a bit heavy beneath the surface, or you find yourself needing space to talk things through, counselling can offer a calm place to pause and reflect.

I currently have availability for new clients in Rochester-Kent, as well as online sessions.

Feeling anxious about world events? You’re not alone. 🌍

It’s completely natural to feel uneasy or worried when we hear talk about conflict or potential world war. Seeing distressing headlines or worst-case scenarios can make our minds go into overdrive, especially when it feels like something out of our control.

Here are a few ways to look after your mental wellbeing when global uncertainty weighs on you:

🧠 Limit news and social media exposure
Choosing specific times of day to check trusted news and switching off alerts, can help minimise overwhelm. Constant scrolling or watching every update can fuel anxiety.

📍 Focus on what you can control
Worrying about things beyond our control rarely changes outcomes. Try asking yourself what practical, small actions you can take today. Like connecting with loved ones, walking outside or doing something creative.

🤝 Keep connected
Talking about how you feel with a friend, family member or support group often helps reduce isolation and reminds us we’re not navigating fear alone.

💭 Use grounding techniques
Mindfulness, deep breathing, or a short walk can help bring your attention to the present moment and calm the body’s stress response.

🧠 Set healthy routines
Sleep, nutrition, movement and hobbies. These basics, support your resilience and make it easier to cope with stress.

Feeling scared or uneasy does not mean you’re weak, it means you care about the world. But your mental wellbeing matters too. Sometimes stepping back, grounding yourself and looking after your daily life is one of the most healthy ways to stay informed without becoming overwhelmed.

If worry feels unmanageable, don’t hesitate to reach out to a professional, you don’t have to carry fear on your own. 💛

Have you ever noticed how your mind seems to look for proof that your worst fears about yourself are true?

This is something called confirmation bias and it comes up often in therapy. It’s when our mind searches for evidence that supports what we already believe and quietly ignores anything that challenges it.

If you hold a belief like “I’m not good enough,” your mind may zoom in on the one comment that feels critical, while overlooking moments of care, competence or connection. Over time, this can start to feel like proof, even when the full picture is much wider.

Becoming aware of these patterns is not about blaming yourself or forcing positive thinking. It’s about slowing things down and gently widening the lens. That awareness creates choice and choice creates space for something different.

A gentle reflection for today:
What belief about yourself might your mind be trying to confirm right now?

I’ve been a little quieter on here lately and that has been a conscious choice.

Stepping back from social media can be an important act of care. The pressure to stay visible, relevant or constantly present can quietly add to stress and comparison, even when we do not fully realise it at the time. Taking a pause has allowed space to slow down, reconnect, and focus on what actually feels nourishing.

If you have been finding social media overwhelming, you are not alone. It is okay to take breaks, set boundaries, and choose what supports your wellbeing, both online and offline. Sometimes, switching off is part of listening in.

It’s been a little while since I last posted and that’s been intentional.

Sometimes, stepping back from social media is exactly what we need. Constant updates, endless scrolling, and the pressure to stay visible can quietly take a toll on our mental wellbeing.

Taking a break can make space for rest, reflection and real connection, the kind that happens away from screens.

If you’ve been feeling the pull to pause, it’s okay to listen to that.
Switching off for a while doesn’t mean disconnecting from others, it can mean reconnecting with yourself.

I've been back from holiday for a few weeks and I am feeling rested. Yet somehow, the end of summer has me thinking about what I want to carry forward.

Summer’s still here, but I notice a shift , the days are getting cooler, routines are falling back in place. It feels like a good time for gentle resets: slowing down, noticing what nourished me, letting go of what weighed me down.

In therapy, we often talk about these transitions, how we move from one season of life to another. They’re chances to reflect, to anchor in self-care, to honour the moments that grounded us.

What’s something warm or restorative from summer you can still lean into today?

One year ago, I took the leap into private practice and this week I’m celebrating that milestone.

It’s been a year of learning, growing, sometimes doubting but always pushing forward. I’ve met people who have trusted me with their stories, felt nervous stepping into the unknown, and found strength in moments I didn’t know I had.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me- clients, friends and family. Your faith means more than you know.

Here’s to year two: more connection, deeper work, and trusting this journey even when it’s hard.
