Happy anniversary to the love of my life - Dean!

11 years ago today we said our 'I Do's' but you know, that wasn't actually the happiest we've ever been.

I am daring to say that right here and now is the happiest we've been so far!

That's because we have grown, learned, experienced and had so much thrown at us that we now deal with things better than we did back then.

Which makes our married life so much easier plus I am totally still in love with this man!

I believe in happily ever afters and want the same for you - have a celebrant that believes in love like me!

This isn't an attack on registrars - they still play an important role in your milestones and cereomnies.

But speaking to my couples on a daily basis means I get to hear from them exactly why they chose me as their celebrant.

And they are all saying the same thing.

Once the legal bit is done, their ceremony should be bespoke, full of personality and without old and dated traditions (unless that's what you want).

A modern day ceremony can be fun, memorable and a talking point for years to come and until registrars can nail that, us celebrants are here to give you exactly what you want!

I have learned a lot in my first year as a qualified celebrant - and not just how to be one!

One of my favourite things to do is learn - I am constantly striving to improve as a person and business owner and I fully believe that you can never know anything, even if you're a leader in your industry.

So I know that I will always learn new things as a celebrant but I also want to give my families and couples the knowledge I pick up along the way so they can improve on their choices too.

Most of all, I know I have made the right choice when I became a celebrant - so here's to more freedom in your ceremonies!

How gorgeous are these two?!!

Naomi was looking for a celebrant who could speak some Spanish and Hebrew and stumbled upon me!

Whilst I am not fluent in either, I can read Hebrew and I can converse in Spanish so this will help when it comes to their ceremony.

They love travelling and music so we have had lots to chat about when I saw them online, I am hoping to meet with them in person if they can squeeze me in as they have a busy Summer coming up!

Ceremony will take place in September and I am sooooo excited to be their celebrant!

Many of the couples I have spoken to didn't realise they could break the rules that society and the patriarchy built for us when it comes to weddings.

They didn't know what a celebrant was until I told them.
They didn't know that they had choices.
They didn't know that their ceremony could be the main part of the wedding.

So I am here to let you know about your choices too.

Because you don't have to do what society taught you to do in order to get married.

In the eyes of the law, you currently still need to register at your local council BUT if that doesn't fill you with joy, you can have a complete ceremony that screams YOU before or after!

You don't have to walk down the aisle, you don't have to not see each other the night before, you can even have your ceremony in the place you first met!

Ditch the rules, stick two fingers up to what's expected and make your ceremony one to remember.

How exciting - the marriage law is finally getting looked at as it is soooo dated!

Did you know that the wedding law hasn't changed in around 200 years!

Times have moved on, baby and we want equality!

Not just for independent celebrants like me to be recognised as people that can legally marry you.

But also for my non-binary, trans and q***r friends and family who are sick of being mis-gendered and dead-named.

Your say is more important than ever and I urge you to tick the right buttons in the government consultation so that getting married represent us all fairly.

There is so much more that goes into your ceremony that I haven't included here but these are the main ones.

As a wedding celebrant, I can put in or take out anything you want to match your personalities and wedding style.

If you want some religious elements, you've got it.
If you want a dance and sing during the ceremony, I encourage it.
If you don't want to be the centre of attention, no problem.

The beauty of having a celebrant like me is there are no rules, you're in charge and I treat you as an individual couples, comparing you to no one!

Happy one year of being a celebrant to me! 😜

On reflection, I know it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made in business.

Whilst I treat it as a separate business, it was always going to be an add on to my party business so that I can become the ultimate family host and celebrant in one.

In 365 days I have:

Met some incredible celebrants that are super supportive of each other and me
Completed my first funeral before I qualified as a funeral celebrant
Have met 3 amazing couples with their weddings coming up
Attended 2 wedding fairs
Been on 2 photo shoots
Appeared in Essex Life magazine
Went live on 3 wedding directories
Attended several networking events

It's been a fantastic year and I cannot wait to see what other stories I discover as I meet people along the way.
