Hello from Starling Homecare. We are a family run team supporting older people and their families across Hertfordshire, in St Albans, Harpenden, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead and the villages around them. Most families come to us at a moment they did not expect. If that is you, we arrange care every day and are happy to talk things through, so you know what good support looks like before you decide anything. Call 01727 324127 or send the page a message.

Today, Starling Homecare had the pleasure of bringing a group of local residents together at The Odyssey Cinema for a dementia-friendly screening of Calamity Jane. 🎬

The familiar songs, humour and story brought back so many happy memories. People spoke about their childhoods, teenage years, family cinema trips and the early days of marriage.

The feedback we received meant so much to us:

“Starling Homecare made me feel very welcome.”

“Relaxed, well looked after, accepted and grateful.”

“Glad to be alive.”

“Starling, this is a good idea.”

One guest told us the morning made them feel “part of the community”, while another said it helped her feel “in touch with the outside world.”

This is why experiences like these matter.

Care is not only about practical support at home. It is also about companionship, inclusion, happy memories and helping people remain connected to the communities they know and love.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, to our wonderful Starling Homecare team for helping each guest feel welcome and supported, and to The Odyssey Cinema for providing such a warm and welcoming setting.

We are already looking forward to the next screening. 💚

Your Care, Our Calling.

💚A wonderful day at Wheathampstead Village Day!💚

On Saturday 11 July, Starling Homecare was delighted to attend Wheathampstead Village Day and spend time with so many members of the local community.

Our Hook a Duck game was a big hit with the children, with everyone who hooked a duck receiving a complimentary safety whistle. This linked to Starling Homecare’s Safety Whistle Campaign, which highlights how something as simple as a whistle can provide a quick and effective way to attract attention when help is needed.

💚Hooking ducks and helping families start important conversations about personal safety

💚Providing complimentary water and cordials to help everyone stay refreshed in the hot weather

💚Making sure our four-legged friends were looked after with complimentary water and dog treats

💚Sharing information about our next dementia-friendly screening of Calamity Jane at The Odyssey Cinema, St Albans, on Thursday 30 July

It was a lovely opportunity to meet local residents, talk about the work we do and enjoy the fantastic community spirit that makes events like Wheathampstead Village Day so special.

A heartfelt thank you to the organisers, everyone who stopped by our stall and all those who helped make the day such a success!

We’re pleased to be supporting the next dementia-friendly screening at The Odyssey Cinema: Calamity Jane.

Following the lovely response to the last screening, we would love to help make this next one another warm and welcoming morning for local families.

These screenings are designed to offer a gentler cinema experience for people living with dementia or memory loss, older adults who may benefit from a calmer setting, and the families, friends and carers who support them.

There will be low auditorium lighting, no adverts or trailers, and a relaxed environment where people can feel comfortable throughout the film.

Calamity Jane will be shown at The Odyssey Cinema on Thursday 30 July at 10:00am.

Families from St Albans, Harpenden and the surrounding community are very welcome to contact us.

A limited number of complimentary tickets may be available through Starling Homecare, subject to availability.

💚A special morning at The Odyssey Cinema, St Albans for their Dementia-friendly screening of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers💚

We were delighted to collaborate with The Odyssey Cinema, for one of their Dementia Friendly Screenings by reaching out to the local community to bring people together with shared emotions of nostalgia and happiness, helping them to feel valued and part of a thriving community!

The screenings offer a welcoming and supportive cinema experience for people with dementia, their families, friends or those who may benefit from a more relaxed cinema environment, with low-level lighting and controlled volume.

It was lovely to hear how much the morning meant to those who joined us:

💚 Sharing this experience with others made me feel "part of a community"
💚 I really enjoyed "spending quality time with my Mum, watching her favourite film."
💚 Starling Homecare made me feel "well looked after."

A heartfelt thank you to The Odyssey for leading such an important initiative, and to everyone who came along and helped make the morning so special.

From the very beginning, our aim with Starling Homecare has been simple: to provide care that families can genuinely trust and count on.
