Today (10th Sept) is World Su***de Prevention Day…

Let’s break the stigma and get talking su***de!

Currently…
💚 1 in 5 adults will experience suicidal thoughts in their lifetime
💚 in the UK, su***de is sadly still on an upward climb as cause of death
💚 men are 3 times more likely to die by su***de than women
💚 su***de is the biggest cause of death in men under the age of 50

However su***de can be preventable… and it’s a total urban myth that talking about it will make someone do it - quite the opposite.

Thank you Samaritans for making these posters to keep breaking down the taboos.

In Cornwall, Georgia's Voice Supporting Young Women's Mental Health and Man down - supporting men’s mental health offer free groups and support. You are not alone ✨

Today is for highlighting and raising awareness. Tomorrow and every other day, let’s get talking because we can all make a difference… ✨ 🌙

September… 🍂
If you’re in the meteorological camp, the 1st of September is the start of Autumn… or if you’re in the astronomical camp, there’s a few more weeks yet before the seasonal wheel turns once more…

Either way, summer is slipping away and changes in nature can be noted everywhere. The colours, the textures, the sounds, the softer light and atmosphere… It’s also a reminder for us that things rarely remain static or stationary, and we too are able to adapt and adjust if we want to… 🍂

The now classic metaphors of ‘letting go’ at this time of year (as the leaves shed and fall) are already being shared. Yet this is less about loss, and more about choice.
New months and seasons allow for new starts if so desired, and more so as we enter into Autumn the idea of preparedness for the months ahead…

As September rolls in and summer waves goodbye, this month doesn’t have to be viewed as an ending… It’s a month of change, and although sometimes change is the scary part, it can bring many possibilities… ✨

If it’s helpful, here’s some prompts as we greet this season together… What are you carrying into this month? What are you willing to see change? What are you able to let go of if this is helpful to you? How does change and the letting go make you feel? 🌙 ✨

As we edge closer to the bank holiday weekend… reminder that it does not need to be full and busy - you can slow down and let your mind and body rejuvenate… ✨
Why? Because it’s important! With the recent longer sunny days it can bring more commitments, activities and expectations (for some it’s up to 6hrs additional time to go go go!) and although we can sometimes feel uplifted or excited even by this summer energy, it can also be hard to sustain leaving us rather exhausted and depleted if this seasonal imbalance is not attuned to… ☯️ ✨

Summer is slipping away… and perhaps noticing it more so with the ‘false autumn’ around us at the moment 🍂 which can be a reminder from nature to us in its own way for the preparation needed for what lies ahead…

So as we reach the end of August. Slow down and stop a while. May the weekend bring you ways to feel rested and ways to feel at peace… 😌 🌙 ✨

Years ago these four words were shared and it’s something I haven’t forgotten.

‘Notice what you notice…’ ✨

I’ve shared them with countless others since because they are simple enough to remember… and yet profound enough if you allow them to be…

They can allow us to connect more deeply with any given moment, be it with each other… with nature… the situation we can find ourselves in… and our feelings…

Instead of on a dog walk where my mind’s treadmill usually likes to distract and dictate, this moment captured the other morning (photo below 👇 ) stopped me in my tracks - along with the inner voice of ‘notice what you notice’… and pausing long enough to admire, be brought back into the present and notice some more… ✨

‘Notice what you notice’ can be an effective way of increasing awareness and being more mindful. It can take us out of our heads and down to the ground, bringing needed clarity and calm.

As with most things, it can take practice. Our modern world is rarely designed for the slowing down and it becomes the ‘norm’ to rush from one thing to the next, passing through rather than soaking it in. Next time you’re sitting in a familiar place or sharing company, ‘notice what you notice’ (and *really* notice - such as focus in on those unique details or fleeting feelings). You might be surprised by what you discover… 🌙 ✨

This is where you’ll usually find me on a Wednesday… thanks to Your Time and Place at Hamleys 🙏👇

A space that becomes your space to…

talk and to share silences…
be heard and to listen…
be seen and to gain perspective…
realise strength when weakened…
be messy and to create…
uncover and discover…
become comfortable in the uncomfortable…
breakdown and build up…
gain awareness and understanding…
turn down the external noise to turn up the internal voice…
laugh and cry…
slow down to focus in…
give time to you to find your needed rhythm…
feel and to express…

… and all and any in between that feels true to you in a space that you can be you… 🌙 ✨

Making time to celebrate and share successes doesn’t come easily… however during the last heatwave a cheeky iced latte felt like a good excuse! The taught components and assignments are all completed for my Level 6 certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision with Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) 🙌 and with a few more things to finish off before this month is through, the feelings of one door closing is already being met with optimism for what others opening might bring… 🚪 ✨

So here’s to practicing to make progress… gratitude to fellow therapists and supervisors… making time for clarity in offerings… and patience in website updates (yet to go live!)… 🙏 Let’s see what this Autumn will bring 🌙 ✨
