When people come to see me they’ll often be told to move more!
We do the same things day in day out, moving in the same ways constantly, then you bend down and twist ‘a little funny’ to put your socks on and your back hates you for it!
Anyone that knows me will know I’m a massive advocate of strength training, but I’m also aware lifting heavy isn’t for everyone!
Now I’m not saying Pilates is the easy option 😳 but it’s such a great way to get moving, aid with core strength (what do you think supports your back?) and build up strength and mobility.
Have a read of Lorraine’s story, people often feel like they can’t or aren’t allowed to do exercise after injuries or problems. The phrase ‘use it or lose it’ is so valid. If you do not ‘train’ your body to be able to move, how can you expect it to be able to?
*I’m not on commission, shes a mad as a box of frogs (have a look at some of the fund raising challenges she’s done!) and deserves a massive thank you from me, and I should imagine a lot of people, for all the help she’s given.
Spinal Surgery - Pilates - Life Changing
Welcome to all our new followers 😀 I thought I should share a little about me and why I started the amazing practice that is Pilates 🙏
I found Pilates after my 2nd Spinal surgery, I was just 27 when a disc in my lower back first pr*****ed. There was no accident or trauma it just 'went'. I had every treatment imaginable, but nothing worked, and in the end, the only option was surgery. I was incredibly lucky to wake up pain-free and was back to normal life within weeks.
Then, 8 years later, it happened again 😔 and this time was really bad. I was house bound, paralysed with pain, and became very ill.
After months of injections, physio, alternative treatments, etc, I was again told surgery was the only option, but the "total success" rate was now greatly reduced. However, when you are in so much pain, you will do anything, so I went ahead and, at 35 years old, had my 2nd Spinal surgery.
Recovery this time was much slower, I was terrified to do anything! However, as the months passed, I became more confident, and I feel incredibly lucky to have come through without any permanent damage or pain, but it changed my life.
I was terrified it would happen again so set out to find something I could do to stop this .... Then found Pilates, and it has changed my life for good 🙏
So much so that I qualified as an instructor in 2010, left my very well-paid corporate career in 2011, and have been teaching ever since ❤
I ran my first marathon in 2015 and have done 5 more since, completed a half Ironman triathlon, climbed Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp and so many other wonderful adventures ...... Most importantly, I live a very Happy & Healthy pain-free life. None of this would be possible if I didn’t practice Pilates.
I feel so incredibly lucky to now teach, share, and help do the same for others and
I truly believe everyone should practice Pilates.
Please believe me when I say prevention is better than the cure 🏥
You can do Pilates with me on demand anytime, anywhere from as little as £7.49 per month, it's the best investment in yourself you will ever make 😊
