Had a wonderful time yesterday at The National Funeral Exhibition NFE
Lots of networking opportunities and information gathered. Saw all sorts of memorial products and funeral related items. Was so busy looking at everything I forgot to take any photos!

Also had a great catch up with my celebrant friends Sheenagh Peart and Lesley Coles

The National Funeral Exhibition (NFE) stands as a highly respected international platform for the funeral profession and remains the United Kingdom’s largest and most prominent trade show within the sector.

What amazing work the hospice and end of life staff do

Today, we are proud to announce the launch of a new service to help people across Birmingham and Solihull to access specialist end of life and palliative care in their own homes, helping them to stay in familiar surroundings near their loved ones.

The SPUR (Specialist Palliative Urgent Response) service, which goes live today, will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will take calls from patients and their families, as well as healthcare professionals, and either offer advice, signpost to relevant services, or arrange a home visit within two hours, bringing our expert skills directly into people's homes in times of crisis.

The initiative responds to longstanding gaps in out-of-hours palliative care provision, particularly overnight, where fragmented services have often led to undue stress for families and increased pressure on local emergency departments. The intention is that, by providing a single point of contact, patients and their families will be able to receive the support they need more quickly.

To access the service, from 8am-10pm please contact HoBS (Hospices of Birmingham and Solihull) on 0121 809 1900. Overnight (10pm-8am), please use our dedicated hotline number 0300 555 1919 (select option 2).

It is always a privilege and honour to work with families and support them with their final goodbye to their loved ones. It is always lovely to receive feedback and know that I have been a help and support during the funeral process. Below is some feedback for a scattering service I conducted last month:

β€œA huge, heartfelt thank you to Tracey for making my dad’s final journey so truly perfect. From the very beginning, her care, compassion and attention to detail were exceptional. She took such time and care in putting the eulogy together, describing my dad and his life perfectly β€” it felt like she really understood who he was.

Tracey explained every stage of the process clearly and kept me informed throughout, which meant so much during such a difficult time. I felt genuinely supported from start to finish, and her calm, assured presence helped me feel strong and steady on the day itself.

Knowing I was in such safe hands lifted a huge weight from my shoulders. Tracey even went above and beyond by liaising with the cemetery to ensure the service and the scattering of ashes ran smoothly, allowing me to focus on remembering dad and looking after family and friends rather than worrying about logistics.

I truly can’t recommend Tracey highly enough. Her kindness, professionalism and dedication made this emotional experience feel manageable, meaningful and filled with respect. Thank you again.”

As heavy snow is forecast this week, this may affect cemetery and crematoria operations. In extreme conditions, funerals could be postponed for safety reasons, and sites may close to general visitors.

Today I will be conducting my last funeral of the year at Yardley Crematorium. It’s going to be a tough one since it is for a dear friend from my bereavement group who died suddenly last month. God bless Anne
