🌿 Helpful Hugh is looking for a Local Home Support Worker 🌿

Due to continued growth, I'm looking for a caring, reliable and friendly person to join the Helpful Hugh team on a self-employed basis.

Initially, the role will involve around 5 hours per week, with regular weekday visits in the Kingsland area. There is also the opportunity for additional hours as new clients come on board.

The work includes:
🏡 Home support
☕ Making lunch or a cup of tea
🧹 Light household tasks
🛒 Shopping and companionship
🚿 Occasional personal care

I'm looking for someone who:
✔ Is kind, patient and dependable
✔ Has experience in care or home support (preferred)
✔ Is self-employed or willing to become self-employed
✔ Has their own transport
✔ Wants to build regular local hours rather than rushed 15-minute calls

I was given this lovely handwritten reference today from one of my clients in Kingsland, and I thought I’d share it (with their permission 😊)

“"Re Hugh Pawsey – Carer and general help.
Hugh is a great help, a genial guy and willing to attempt any task.
Always cheerful.
He has swept and washed floors, painted fences, dug up small trees and loaded firewood.
He has lifted boxes of articles down from the loft, carried bags of compost to a garden store, and moved garden furniture around.
He has looked after John and taken him shopping.
Referred by us, he is now helping several others in the village.
This is the strongest reference (as long as he doesn’t leave)."

Did you know, Helpful Hugh is a fully qualified and fully insured carer?

Over the past year I’ve been helping a number of older residents in Kingsland and the surrounding villages with day-to-day support at home.

Sometimes people don’t need full-time care — they just need a bit of help to stay comfortable and independent.

This might include:
• a weekly shopping trip
• light housework or cleaning
• help around the home
• a friendly check-in and cup of tea
• companionship visits

I now have some limited afternoon availability during the week.

Many families live further away and can’t always pop in as often as they’d like, so having someone local they can trust can make a huge difference.

I offer home support visits that can include:

• Companionship and friendly check-in visits
• Light housework and cleaning
• Bedding changes and laundry
• Shopping help and errands
• Meal preparation
• General help around the home

My aim is simply to help older residents stay comfortable, safe and independent in their own homes, while giving families the reassurance that someone local can pop in and make sure everything is okay.

💙 A Busy Couple of Weeks for Helpful Hugh 💪

I haven’t posted in a little while because I’ve been flat out helping people around Kingsland, Weobley, Leominster and beyond.
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been busy with:
✅ Garden edging & tidying
✅ Gutter clearing
✅ Hedge trimming
✅ Leaf clearing
✅ House cleaning
✅ Shopping trips
✅ General home help
✅ Installing bird boxes & little jobs

Including giving Jackie’s flower beds a proper tidy and bringing the edges back to life 🌱 (before & after below!)

As always, it’s a pleasure helping people stay independent and comfortable in their own homes.

Another productive day out in the gardens 🌿
✔️ Cleared an overgrown pergola roof, cutting back tangled vines and growth
✔️ Swept and cleared the decking area, removing wet leaves and general garden debris
⚠️ Worth noting — wet leaves on decking can become VERY slippery, and Helpful Hugh doesn’t like his clients ending up in hospital!
✔️ Finished off by removing heavy ivy growth from a large, old ash tree, freeing the trunk and improving airflow and overall tree health
A big difference made with some careful cutting back and a proper tidy-up.

✔️ Gutter clearing

➡️ And yep… more gardening 😅
Hard graft, fresh air, and very satisfying results all round.

A week in the life of Helpful Hugh 💪🌿
This week’s been a proper mixed bag — the kind I love.
🛒 Took John out shopping so he could get out, get what he needed, and enjoy a bit of normality
🪵 Stacked a ton of firewood for Linda
🪵 Another ton stacked for Steph (arms are definitely feeling that one 😅)
🏠 Cleaned Molly’s house
🧹 Cleared Jackie’s gutters before the weather could do its worst
✂️ Trimmed Mary’s hedges
🍂 Raked up all the leaves in Janet’s garden
🐦 Installed a new bird house on the side of her shed (already being inspected!)
🧼 Cleaned the algae off Patricia's patio and watered her house plants
🌿 Then back to Steph’s to remove some very determined ivy creeping into her summer house roof

A lot of the people I help don’t have family nearby anymore — or their sons, daughters, and grandchildren can’t always be there as much as they’d like. That’s where I come in.
I’m not just there to get jobs done — I’m there to be an extra pair of hands, a lift into town, someone to rely on.
A bit like a stand-in son or grandson when one’s needed ❤️
