If you're looking for a more authentic and supportive approach to starting yoga, join me - Diane, a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher since 2019 and a dedicated practitioner for 18 years. Iyengar Yoga is known worldwide for its focus on alignment, precision, sequencing and and a deeper understanding of how the body moves and functions. My classes are suitable for beginners and more experienced students, and can be particularly beneficial for those recovering from injury, managing physical limitations, or looking to improve posture, balance, strength, and flexibility. Through careful instruction and the use of props, you'll learn how to work safely and effectively in class and pick up useful tips on how to practice safely at home.

Classes run on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Belhaven Surf Centre, where all equipment is available for your use. Whether you're new to yoga or looking to deepen your practice, you'll receive experienced guidance in a welcoming and encouraging environment. Hi there, I have a few spaces available in my Tuesday beginner and continuing beginner classes that I teach at the Belhaven Surf Centre. I've been running these lovely classes at the centre since 2019 and the space offers a fully equiped yoga space with all yoga equipment provided. Classes are small, friendly and welcoming. My classes offer authentic yoga teaching that is progressive and grounded in building a sustainable and meaningful practice. This morning we practised some standing poses in a supported and more restorative way. We used the floor, wall, chairs and belts to refine our alignment and help us stay longer without fatigue. This approach still develops stability, balance, and postural awareness whilst keeping the nervous calm system. Instead of pushing, we were learning to observe and adjust, aiming to create space in the body and quieten the mind. A great way to smooth out the stresses from the week ready for a calmer start to the weekend.

I offer small, supportive Iyengar yoga classes at the Belhaven Surf Centre to help you move safely and effectively on and off the mat! My classes offer a calm, structured approach to building strength and flexibility; leaving you feeling calmer and more relaxed.

* A gentle seated start to ground the body and tune into your breath
* A mixture of standing, seated and lying poses.
* Clear, detailed instruction and hands on adjustments
* Use of props

As we head towards the end of February we’ll be focusing on restorative poses this week. In Iyengar yoga we follow the ‘Pune cycle’ - a structured 4 week programme that ensures a balanced, systematic practice that focuses on different groupings of poses each week:

Week 1: Standing Poses – Builds foundational strength, stability, and leg engagement.
Week 2: Forward Extensions & Twists – Focuses on flexibility, cooling, and introspection.
Week 3: Back Extensions (Backbends) – Energizes the body, opens the chest, and builds strength.
Week 4: Restorative Poses & Pranayama – Focuses on deep relaxation, recovery, and breath control

This week’s restorative will have a focus on poses that can support digestion. This can be really useful during seasonal transitions and to reduce the heaviness of winter sluggishness.

An uplifting urdhva dhanurasana under my last setting sun in Morocco. A few of us in family were a bit under the weather while we were away so most of my practice was gentle, restorative and cooling. Lots of sunshine, waves, fresh produce and mint tea went a long way in a well needed mood boost.

My next block of classes are available to book. If you are sensitive to these darker winter months a regular practice can assist your wellbeing by boosting your mood, releasing physical tension, helping you sleep better and soothing your nervous system. My next block of beginner and continuing beginner yoga classes start on the 24th February. Brighten up February and join me at the Belhaven Surf Centre where you can expect small, friendly classes with all equipment provided. The centre offers a quiet and warm studio space with 'green powered' underfloor heating and large windows offering ample natural light and sea views.
