Josie de Vries - Nutritional Therapist

Josie de Vries - Nutritional Therapist Professional guidance for a balanced lifestyle and improved well-being through nutrition. There won't be any strict diets or cutting out all the foods you love.

As a nutritional therapist, my main goal is to guide you towards becoming the best version of yourself. I base my knowledge on evidence-based research and my own personal experience. Having personally gone through a complete lifestyle change, I understand first-hand the positive impact a healthy lifestyle can have. In my practice, I take a holistic approach, considering both nutrition and lifestyl

e factors. Instead, we will focus on understanding your body's specific needs to provide the help you need. I firmly believe in the power of working together and that achieving your health goals is always a result of strong collaboration.

You just handled weeks of absolute chaos, aka St. Barths New Year charters. So why are you punishing yourself now?

Here’s what most crew don’t realise: your body can’t tell the difference between charter stress and restriction stress. It’s all just stress.

So when you pile restriction on top of St. Barths madness, your body stays in survival mode. Your cravings get worse. Your energy crashes harder. Your mood tanks.

That’s not weakness. That’s physiology.

Stop right there. Before you start another diet.

It’s January. Whether you’re in the Caribbean on back-to-back charters or stuck in a shipyard in Europe, you’ve cut out sugar, gone low carb, and ditched whole food groups, making the chef’s life tougher with new diet restrictions.

Then reality hits. A tough charter guest pushes you to your limits. By week three, you’re exhausted, your mood tanks, and you crave everything you cut out.

But here’s the truth. It’s not about willpower. It’s your body responding to restriction in a high-stress yacht environment.
What if you didn’t have to choose between feeling good and thriving as female yacht crew? You can support your hormones, enjoy your food, and actually feel energised on board and off.

Your hormones are trying to tell you something. Are you listening?

On charter, with back-to-back shifts, shared cabins, and eating whatever’s available, it’s easy to think feeling exhausted, moody, or bloated is just normal. But it’s your body asking for support.
Hormones don’t just affect your mood or period. They impact your energy on deck, sleep in a tiny cabin, digestion in the crew mess, and mental health at sea.

When you’re living on coffee, crew mess snacks, and whatever you can grab, you’re depleting key nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, iron, zinc, and protein. That’s why you crash, can’t sleep, feel irritable, or struggle with your cycle.
The yacht industry isn’t designed for hormonal health. You can’t always eat when your body needs fuel. But your hormones need consistent nutrition, no matter the charter schedule.

You’re not weak or not cut out for yachting. Your body just needs proper nutrition to thrive, even in a high-stress environment. When you support your hormones, everything changes: energy, mood, sleep, and resilience, even on charter.

🩷 Save this if you’re tired of feeling like your body’s working against you. Share with crew who need to hear it. Let’s change the conversation around crew health.
