🌿 DAY 4 — HYDRATION VS MOISTURE

Do you know the difference? 💧

We often use the words hydrating and moisturising as though they mean exactly the same thing — but when it comes to skincare, they actually do two different jobs.

💧 HYDRATION = WATER

Hydration is about increasing the amount of water in your skin.

Hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin can help attract and hold water, leaving the skin feeling plumper, fresher and more comfortable.

If your skin looks dull, feels tight or has those little fine dehydration lines, it may be crying out for hydration.

🧴 MOISTURE = HELPING TO KEEP IT IN

Moisturising is about helping to reduce water loss and support your skin barrier.

Ingredients such as ceramides, oils, shea butter and squalane can help soften the skin and support that protective barrier, helping your skin hold on to its moisture.

🤍SO, CAN YOU BE OILY AND DEHYDRATED?

Absolutely!

This is one of the biggest skincare misconceptions.

You can have oily skin that is also dehydrated. Your skin may be producing plenty of oil but still not have enough water.

This is why aggressively stripping oily skin can sometimes leave it feeling uncomfortable while still looking shiny.

✨ THE PERFECT PAIR

Think of it simply:

💧 Hydration helps add water.
🧴 Moisture helps keep it in.
🤍Your skin barrier helps protect it.

For many people, healthy-looking skin benefits from both hydration and moisture, but the balance will depend on your individual skin.

And remember — skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. Understanding what your skin is asking for is often the best place to start. 🤍

Save this post so you can come back to it the next time you’re choosing your skincare.

Day 4 of my Skincare Information Guide 🤍

Tomorrow, we’ll look at another important part of getting the best from your skincare…

DAY 3 WHAT’S YOUR SKIN TYPE?

Beautiful skin starts with understanding yours. 🤍

Have you ever bought a skincare product because it worked brilliantly for someone else, only to find it doesn’t seem to do the same for you?

The reason could simply be that your skin needs something different.

Your skin type is largely determined by how much oil your skin naturally produces, and it can change over time due to hormones, age, seasons, lifestyle and other factors.

Here’s a little guide to help you understand yours:

🤍 DRY SKIN
Your skin may feel tight, rough or uncomfortable, particularly after cleansing. You may notice flaking or areas that look dull.
Think: gentle cleansing, hydration and nourishing moisturisers.

✨ OILY SKIN
Your skin tends to produce more oil and may look shiny, particularly around your forehead, nose and chin. You may also be more prone to blocked pores and breakouts.
Think: lightweight hydration and gentle, balanced skincare — stripping your skin can sometimes make things worse.

🌿 COMBINATION SKIN
You may find your T-zone is oilier while your cheeks or other areas feel drier.
Think: balance. Your whole face may not need exactly the same approach.

🌸 NORMAL / BALANCED SKIN
Your skin generally feels comfortable, isn’t excessively oily or dry, and tends to have a relatively even texture.
Think: maintaining what you’ve already got with a simple, consistent routine.

🌱 SENSITIVE SKIN
Your skin may react easily to products and can be prone to redness, stinging, burning or irritation.
Think: gentle, fragrance-free products where possible and introduce new products slowly.

BUT HERE’S SOMETHING IMPORTANT…

Your skin type isn’t the same as your skin concerns.

You can have oily skin that is dehydrated, dry skin that is breakout-prone, or sensitive skin that also has pigmentation or signs of ageing.

That’s why finding the right skincare isn’t simply about choosing products labelled “for dry skin” or “for oily skin.”

It’s about understanding what your skin is doing and what it actually needs. 🤍

And remember, your skin can change — so don’t be afraid to reassess your routine from time to time.

Save this post and have a little look at your own skin today. 🤍

If you’re unsure about your skin type or what products would suit you, feel free to ask — sometimes a little understanding can make a big difference.

Different skin. Beautiful skin.
Care for yours. ✨

🤍DAY 2 — INGREDIENTS WORTH KNOWING

Ever wondered what all those ingredients on the back of your skincare actually do?

There are so many ingredients being talked about in skincare, and understanding a few of the key ones can make choosing products so much easier.

Here are some of the ones I think are worth knowing:

💧 HYALURONIC ACID
A hydration hero. It helps attract and hold water in the skin, helping it feel plumper, softer and more hydrated.

🍊 VITAMIN C
An antioxidant that can help brighten the appearance of the skin and improve the look of uneven pigmentation. It’s also involved in collagen production.

🌿 NIACINAMIDE
Also known as vitamin B3, this is a wonderfully versatile ingredient. It can support the skin barrier, help reduce water loss and is often used for concerns such as redness, uneven tone and oily skin.

🍃 GREEN TEA
A source of antioxidants and an ingredient with anti-inflammatory properties, making it a lovely addition to products designed to soothe and protect the skin.

🌹 ROSEHIP OIL
A plant oil naturally rich in fatty acids and other compounds. It can be used as an emollient to help soften and condition the skin.

🥑 SQUALANE
A lightweight emollient that helps soften the skin and reduce moisture loss without necessarily feeling heavy.

🧴 CERAMIDES
Think of these as part of your skin’s protective barrier. They help the skin retain moisture and are particularly useful when your skin feels dry or compromised.

🌸 CHAMOMILE
Known for its soothing properties and commonly found in products designed for sensitive or irritated-feeling skin.

🌱 ALOE VERA
Often used for its cooling, soothing and moisturising qualities. There is evidence of potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, although the evidence for treating specific skin conditions is mixed.

🥥 SHEA BUTTER
A rich emollient that helps soften and moisturise the skin and can be particularly lovely for dry skin.

✨ PEPTIDES
Small chains of amino acids used in skincare formulations aimed at supporting the appearance of firmer, smoother skin. However, don’t believe every marketing claim — the ability of larger peptide molecules to pe*****te the skin can be limited.

🌿 WITCH HAZEL
Often used in skincare for its astringent properties, although formulations vary and some can be irritating, particularly for sensitive skin.

🌱 TEA TREE
Commonly found in products aimed at blemish-prone skin because of its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

💜 LAVENDER
Often included for its fragrance and soothing associations, but essential oils can irritate or sensitise some people’s skin, so natural doesn’t automatically mean suitable for everyone.

🌰 JOJOBA OIL
A conditioning ingredient that helps soften and moisturise the skin.

✨ THE IMPORTANT BIT…

More ingredients doesn’t necessarily mean better skincare.

The best ingredients for you depend on your skin type, your concerns and how your skin reacts to products.

And remember — natural doesn’t automatically mean gentle, and expensive doesn’t automatically mean effective.

Your skin doesn’t need a complicated 15-step routine. It needs the right ingredients, used consistently and appropriately. 🤍

Save this post — it’s one to come back to the next time you’re standing in front of the skincare shelf wondering “What does all of this actually do?” 🤍

YOUR FACIAL GLOW UP ROUTINE

Want that fresh, healthy, I’ve just had a facial feeling at home?

Set aside 20–30 minutes, put your phone away and give your skin some attention.

STEP 1 — DOUBLE CLEANSE
Start with a gentle cleanse to remove makeup, SPF and the day’s build-up. Rinse with lukewarm water, then cleanse again to properly refresh the skin.

STEP 2 — GENTLE EXFOLIATION
Use a gentle exfoliator to help remove dead skin cells and leave your complexion feeling smoother and looking brighter. Don’t overdo it — your skin shouldn’t feel tight or uncomfortable afterwards.

STEP 3 — THE MASK
Now for the relaxing part. Apply a hydrating or nourishing face mask suited to your skin type, sit back and let it do its thing.

STEP 4 — SERUM
Once your mask is removed, apply your favourite serum. Look for ingredients that suit what your skin needs — hydration, brightness or soothing, for example.

STEP 5 — MOISTURISE & MASSAGE
Apply your moisturiser and take a couple of minutes to gently massage it into your face and neck. Think slow, relaxing movements rather than pulling or dragging the skin.

STEP 6 — FINISH WITH SPF
If you’re doing your glow-up during the day, finish with a broad-spectrum SPF. Glowing skin is beautiful — protecting it is even better.

Then take a look in the mirror…

Fresh skin. A little extra glow. And that lovely feeling of having actually taken some time for yourself.

You don’t need a complicated routine.
Sometimes it’s simply about slowing down and giving your skin a little love.

And if you’d rather leave the pampering to someone else, you know where to find me at Botanical Beauty. 🤍

A new season calls for a new kind of glow… 🍁🍂🍁

As the seasons gently shift, our skin often tells us before we even realise it.

The softness of summer begins to fade, the air becomes cooler and drier, and suddenly your skin may feel a little tighter, duller or less luminous than it did before.

But what if this is the perfect moment to rethink your skincare ritual?

The changing seasons are an invitation to slow down, listen to your skin and give it exactly what it needs — more nourishment, more hydration, more protection and perhaps a little more love.

Over the next 7 days, I’ll be sharing my Botanical Beauty Glow Up Guide — a collection of beautiful, simple rituals, natural beauty ideas, skincare tips and nourishing inspiration designed to help you rediscover that fresh, healthy-looking glow.

Think of it as seven days of beauty, wellbeing and a little luxury brought into your everyday routine.

✨ SELF-CARE ISN’T SELFISH — IT’S NECESSARY ✨

Today I’ve taken some much-needed time for me at the thermal spa at The Swan Hotel, Bedford. 🧖‍♀️

Sometimes we get so caught up looking after everyone else that we forget to stop, breathe and look after ourselves too.

Taking a little time out to relax, switch off and simply enjoy some peace and quiet can make such a difference to how we feel — not just physically, but mentally too.

Self-care can be a spa day, a quiet coffee, a walk, an early night… or simply taking an hour out of your busy week to be pampered and completely switch off. 🤍

And that’s exactly why I created Botanical Beauty.

I want your appointments to be more than just a treatment. I want them to be your time — a chance to slow down, relax, feel pampered and leave feeling refreshed, restored and a little more like yourself.

🌿 Make yourself a priority.
🌿 Take the time you deserve.
🌿 Come and enjoy some well-earned you time at Botanical Beauty.

Because looking after yourself isn’t a luxury… it’s part of looking after you. 🤍

When was the last time you took some proper time just for YOU?

Mine was today!! My children back at school my day off work so i made myself a priority 🤍 (NO GUILT)
