If a holiday this year comes with a flight you're quietly dreading, you're not on your own. Fear of flying is a common phobia, and an understandable one. It might trace back to a difficult flight in the past, or simply to imagining the worst, but whichever it is, hypnotherapy can make a genuine difference.

I've worked with a number of clients on this, helping them go from dreading a flight to properly enjoying the trip on the other side of it. I've written a bit more about it on the blog, and I'd be happy to have a chat if it's something on your mind.

One of the first things I ask in a session is what's gone well since we last met. It's a simple question, but it's a deliberate one.

We're naturally quicker to notice what's gone wrong than what's gone right. It's an old survival instinct, more useful for watching out for danger than for feeling good about an ordinary Tuesday. The psychologist Martin Seligman studied this, and found that simply asking people to notice three good things a day, and think about why they happened, made a real difference to how they felt.

It's a small habit, but it's worth trying. For the next week, take a moment each evening to note three things that went well, and why. I've written more about it on the blog, and I'd love to hear how you get on.

Interesting article about younger people experiencing chronic pain that highlights the impact of the brain in this difficult condition, and how it creates neural pathways that reinforce the pain. Happily it goes on to say that ‘understanding mindset and changing your attitude can have measurable effects’. This is exactly why hypnotherapy can help with chronic pain.

I'm looking forward to something a little different this September. On the 25th I'm joining forces with the lovely Rachel Warren for an evening of pampering and relaxation at Bradley Village Hall.

Rachel will lead a relaxing facial, and I'll follow with some deep relaxation, the kind that leaves you ready for the best night's sleep you've had in a while. It runs from 7 until 9.30pm, and it's a lovely way to start the weekend feeling calm.

I have some news to share this month. I'm moving into a new therapy room, at 21 Newmarket Street in Skipton, above Parker Gould Insurance and in the same building as Ali's Therapies and the Backman. A few of you will already know it well.

It's a lovely space, and it also means I'll have more availability for appointments. So if you've been thinking about booking, now is a good time to get in touch.

I’m very excited to be welcoming clients to my new space from this week!
