Compensation

Dogs are incredibly adaptable.

When one area becomes less efficient, another often works harder.

These compensations can become normal for the dog—even though they're not optimal.

⚠️ Blue-green Algae at Castle Water ⚠️

We wanted to make you aware that there have been reports of Blue-green Algae in Castle Water.

While this is a natural occurrence in the sea and inland bodies of water like rivers, ponds and lakes, when the algae develop rapidly, blooms can form which can be harmful to people and animals.

If a person comes into contact with Blue-green Algae they may experience skin rashes and illnesses if swallowed. It can also be harmful, and in some cases fatal, to smaller animals, including dogs, wild animals and livestock.

Our advice for the general public is to:

- Avoid coming into contact with the water. If for any reason you do, use hand sanitiser or rinse your hands with clean water as soon as possible.
- Keep your dog on a lead – do not let it swim in, or drink, the water. In the unfortunate event of this happening, please seek immediate veterinary care.

If you would like to find out more about Blue-green Algae, you can visit: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/algal-blooms-advice-for-the-public-and-landowners/algal-blooms-advice-for-the-public-and-landowners

If you are concerned about a suspected case of Blue-green Algae, please call the Environment Agency anytime, on 0800 80 70 60. Alternatively, you can download the Bloomin Algae app and report it here: https://www.ceh.ac.uk/our-science/projects/bloomin-algae

Thank you for your cooperation.

💜 Tiny Poppie is searching for the one thing money can’t buy… a family to call her own. 💜

At just 4 years old and weighing an incredible 3kg, little Poppie may be tiny, but her heart is absolutely enormous.

This beautiful Jack Russell Terrier adores people and is the sweetest little snuggle bug you could ever wish to meet. Once she loves you, she really loves you, and she’ll happily curl up beside you after enjoying a lovely walk. She walks beautifully on her lead and is a joy to have by your side.

Poppie is:
🐾 Good with children
🐾 Good with cats
🐾 Happy to live with another dog, although she’s equally content as your one and only

Like many rescue dogs, Poppie does have a little quirk. She isn’t crate trained and will bark if confined, so she’s looking for a family who will understand that not every rescue dog fits neatly into a box. What she needs isn’t a crate – it’s patience, kindness and someone willing to give her the security she’s been missing.

Every dog that comes into Cinque Ports Rescue receives the veterinary care, assessments and love they need before they’re ready to find their forever home. As a volunteer-run, foster-based rescue, every penny donated goes directly towards helping dogs like Poppie receive the care they deserve.

💙 Could you offer Poppie the forever home she’s dreaming of?
Please visit our website to apply.

💙 Can’t adopt? You can still make a difference.
Please share Poppie’s story so it reaches the person she’s been waiting for, or consider making a donation to help us continue rescuing vulnerable dogs just like her. Your support allows us to say “yes” to the next little soul who has nowhere else to go.

Every share, every donation and every application really does change a life.

Aren't our dog's paws amazing! Used for stability & traction, as well as sweating. They have sensory receptors making them sensitive to touch, pressure & temperature changes! Some breeds have webbed paws for swimming! Trim the fur between their pads, check for debris stuck in there, & SNIFF them! Smell like cheese, cookies or pop corn! Tell me how you dog's feet smell 😍

Wonderful walk up the Fire Hills this morning at 6am! Taking pictures of your dog regularly can help you, or your Canine Professional, spot changes in their posture and movement. Early treatment of any issues can stop discomfort or pain becoming chronic and long term.

There are so many subtleties to a dog's behaviour. So many cues that can be missed. We're all busy, trying to do lots of different tasks all at the same time. But there are consequences to the signs we miss. The soreness, the tightness, the discomfort. If left, it becomes more, it becomes pain, then it becomes chronic pain. If we're not careful it can become their "normal". Small signs, small injuries, niggles, soreness - let me treat them NOW. Before it escalates into something more.

A massage yesterday for this gorgeous boy, who had recently been attacked by another dog. Thankfully he is still calm & loving, though maybe a bit more cautious. Loved his massage ❤️
