Mental Health Awareness Week - 11th -17th May 2026
Theme: Action

Small everyday actions can make a difference to our mental health now and in the future:

🧑🏿‍🤝‍🧑🏼 Stay connected
Spending time with supportive friends, family, and loved ones can help reduce loneliness and strengthen emotional resilience. Connection reminds us that we are not alone.

📆 Plan something to look forward to
Having positive plans - no matter how big or small - can help create hope and motivation. It could be a quiet moment with a cup of tea, a catch‑up with a friend, or planning a future adventure.

🎨 Make time for creativity
Creative activities can help reduce stress and calm an anxious mind. Whether it’s listening to music, painting, singing, baking, or crafting, taking time to do something you enjoy can help you recharge emotionally.

🚶‍♀️ Move your body
Regular movement can improve mood, reduce stress, and boost self‑esteem. It doesn’t have to mean intense exercise - a short walk, stretching, yoga, dancing in the kitchen, or even household chores all count.

🛌 Prioritise sleep
Getting good quality rest is essential for both mental and physical health. Sleep can help improve focus, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing.

🥗 Nourish yourself
Looking after your body can also support your emotional wellbeing. Small habits like staying hydrated, eating balanced meals, and choosing nourishing snacks can make a lasting difference.

đź’¬ Reach out for support
If life feels difficult or overwhelming, professional support can help. Counselling can support long‑term mental wellbeing.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, take one small action for yourself.

🎨 World Art Day: Creative Approaches in Counselling - Celebrating creativity as a powerful tool for healing, self-discovery, and growth 🎨

Counselling isn’t always just about talking. Using creative materials in your therapy can be a great way of communicating thoughts and feelings that are difficult to put into words, or of finding new ways of looking at something.

You might try creative approaches such as painting, drawing or working with clay. It's not about being 'good at art' - it's more about the process of creating and expressing something.

On World Autism Awareness Day, I want to acknowledge and celebrate neurodiversity in all its forms.

I’ve recently completed training in Working Therapeutically with Autistic Clients, supporting my commitment to a neurodiversity-affirming practice. This means valuing different ways of thinking, communicating and experiencing the world, and creating a counselling space that is respectful, adaptable and inclusive.

On 💛 International Women’s Day 💛

Recognising the challenges many women face that can affect their mental health. Experiences such as gender inequality; discrimination; societal pressures; balancing multiple roles; exposure to violence, and physical and reproductive health concerns.

Counselling offers a supportive space where women can talk openly, feel heard, and explore ways to manage these challenges while strengthening their emotional wellbeing.

In celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Acts of kindness can bring joy to the receiver and also give us a sense of connection.

Here are some simple ways to brighten someone’s day 💛

• Help a neighbour
• Call a friend
• Let someone know you’re thinking of them.
• Support a charity
• Volunteer your time.
• Babysit for a friend
• Offer support to an elderly person.

Kindness doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful. Small, intentional acts can create lasting impact - for others and for ourselves.

đź’š This week, 9th - 15th Feb, is đź’š

This year’s theme is “This is My Place”, highlighting the importance of self-acceptance and belonging. Feeling that we truly belong - that we have a place where we are safe, valued, and understood - is a fundamental human need.

When children feel connected to their environment, it can positively shape many areas of their lives, from emotional and physical wellbeing, to learning, relationships, and future opportunities. A strong sense of belonging helps children grow in confidence and encourages them to engage, express themselves, and feel that they can make a meaningful contribution to the world around them.

Counselling can support children in exploring their feelings, building resilience, and developing a secure sense of who they are and where they belong.

is a reminder of how powerful talking can be.

Counselling is a space where you can pause, talk openly, and feel heard - whether you’re struggling or just need space to reflect.
