Late Summer 🌻

Today, 21st August, marks the beginning of Late Summer in Seasonal Yoga.

There’s something lovely about this time of year — the warmth, the gardens in full bloom and that feeling of abundance all around us.

Late Summer is a time to pause, centre and ground ourselves, while enjoying the fullness of the season. A time to nourish ourselves, connect with nature and appreciate all that has grown and flourished around us and within us.

As the light begins to soften and the energy of the year slowly starts to turn, we can gently begin to make space for the quieter, more yin seasons ahead.

For now, let’s enjoy this feeling of fullness and take a little time to soak it all in. 💛

✨ Aerial Yoga in the Heart of Stirling ✨

What if you could press pause… and just let yourself float? 🦋

There’s something pretty special about moving in a hammock.

It supports you, takes some of the weight, and gives you space to explore your body in a completely different way. We’ll stretch, strengthen, find expansion, play with movement, laugh a little — and, of course, finish wrapped up in the hammock for the most delicious, deeply relaxing shavasana. 😌

Whether you’re completely new to yoga or already have a practice, you don’t need to be super flexible or have any aerial experience.

Come as you are and expect:
🌿 space to stretch and release tension
💪 gentle strength-building and body awareness
✨ playful, creative movement
🤩 spinal decompression
🧘‍♀️ more space to breathe and reconnect with yourself
🦋 and that magical feeling of floating

My Aerial Yoga classes are a space to be curious, to move, to have fun and, perhaps most importantly, to give yourself permission to slow down.

Let the hammock hold you. 🤍

📍 Stirling Coffee Roastery, Stirling Town
🕕 Mondays & Tuesdays | 6pm

I’m welcoming new people into the classes, so if you’ve been thinking “I’d love to try that…” — take this as your sign. ✨

Spaces are limited.

There is something deeply satisfying about making your own bread. 🤍

For me, sourdough has become about much more than bread. It is about slowing down and reconnecting with a simple, traditional way of preparing food — choosing the ingredients myself rather than relying on mass-produced, highly processed alternatives.

And one thing I have been quite intentional about is the type of flour I use. I don't make white sourdough. I much prefer multigrain and wholegrain breads, as they retain more of the grain's natural fibre and nutrients and, for me, are a more nourishing choice when including starchy carbohydrates.

And there are some fascinating things happening during that long fermentation too…

🌾 FODMAPs & digestion
Traditional sourdough fermentation can reduce fructans, a type of FODMAP, as the yeasts and lactic acid bacteria break them down. This means that some traditionally fermented sourdough breads can be lower in FODMAPs and may be better tolerated by some people with digestive sensitivities, including IBS. Of course, not every sourdough is automatically low FODMAP — the flour, recipe and fermentation process all matter.

🌿 Choosing better starchy carbohydrates
Sourdough fermentation can also affect how the starch in bread is digested and may result in a lower glycaemic response compared with some other breads. Combined with choosing wholegrain and multigrain flours, this is one of the reasons I enjoy sourdough as part of a balanced approach to starchy carbohydrates.

🦠 Prebiotics & postbiotics
The fermentation process also creates a fascinating range of compounds produced by the microorganisms involved. While the live cultures don't generally survive the heat of baking, fermentation can create metabolites and other changes that may contribute to the nutritional qualities of sourdough. The emerging research around postbiotics and the gut is particularly interesting.

For months, I have been committed to making my own bread at home. And somehow, a homemade loaf always tastes better when you know exactly what has gone into it. 🥖🌿

🍒 A thoughtful gift from a patient - delicious cherries!

Here are a few reasons to enjoy them while they’re in season:

💚 Rich in nutrients
Cherries provide vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, potassium and fibre, all of which support overall health and wellbeing.

🫐 Packed with antioxidants
They’re rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols – plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may help protect our cells from damage.

🏃‍♀️ May support exercise recovery
Some studies suggest cherries, particularly tart cherries, may help reduce exercise-induced muscle soreness and aid recovery after strenuous activity.

😴 May promote more restful sleep
Cherries naturally contain small amounts of melatonin, serotonin and the amino acid tryptophan, which may contribute to improved sleep quality.

🩸 Low glycaemic index
Cherries have a relatively low glycaemic index, meaning they’re less likely to cause a rapid spike in blood glucose levels when eaten as part of a balanced meal or snack.

Easy ways to enjoy them:

✨ Add a handful to Greek yoghurt with nuts & seeds.
✨ Toss into porridge or overnight oats.
✨ Add to salads with rocket, feta and walnuts.
✨ Simply enjoy them as a naturally sweet snack.

Seasonal produce often tastes its best and can be a lovely way to add more variety to your diet. 🍒

💡 As always, nutrition is about your overall eating pattern rather than any single food!

There really is nothing that brings me a greater sense of calm than being on the water... 💙

How lucky are we to have scenery like this right on our doorstep. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

As summer invites us into its fire energy, it's just as important to honour the water element too—to soften, slow down, and find the balance that keeps us from burning out.

I'm so happy to share that this Sunday's Yin to Yang Workshop is now fully booked. Thank you to everyone who felt the call for a nourishing, balanced practice in the heart of midsummer. I can't wait to share the space with you. ✨

What a privilege to have and Julie Hanson yoga join us over the weekend, sharing their wisdom, experience, and the heart behind Seasonal Yoga.

With just one module left, it's hard to believe we're already approaching the end of this journey (and a start of a bigger one for our trainees!) In just a few weeks, our Stirling trainees will be graduating, and it's been wonderful to watch their confidence, knowledge, and practice grow along the way.

Our next Teacher Training course in Stirling is starting mid-September - get in touch [email protected]!

All taking place here in our gorgeous town centre studio The Yoga Tree Stirling 💚
