πŸš— National Road Victim Month

Every road death leaves behind a family whose lives are changed forever.

During National Road Victim Month, we remember those who have lost their lives on our roads and stand alongside the families and friends who continue to live with that loss.

The sudden nature of a road traffic collision can make grief especially overwhelming. At a time when everything feels uncertain, having compassionate support can make all the difference.

At George Ball & Son, we are here to guide families with care, dignity and kindness, helping to arrange a funeral that truly reflects the life of their loved one, while supporting them through each step of the journey.

As we remember those who have died, we also encourage everyone to take extra care on our roads. A moment's attention can save a lifetime of heartache.

Today, Robert Bush of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors was sentenced for crimes that have shocked the nation and caused unimaginable pain to hundreds of bereaved families. Our thoughts remain with every family affected by this heartbreaking case.

While one individual's actions should never define an entire profession, this case has exposed a significant issue that can no longer be ignored.

The funeral profession in England remains largely unregulated. At George Ball & Son, we have long supported the introduction of meaningful regulation, mandatory standards and greater accountability to help protect bereaved families and uphold the integrity of those funeral directors who provide the highest standards of care every day.

We are proud to be voluntary members of both the NAFD and SAIF, adhering to their Codes of Practice because we believe families deserve reassurance, professionalism and transparency.

If, like us, you believe it is time for the Government to introduce proper regulation of the funeral sector, please consider signing this Parliamentary petition:

Trust is at the heart of everything we do. We hope this tragic case will be the catalyst for lasting change that gives every family the protection and confidence they deserve.

Legislation needs to be introduced urgently to ensure the prevention of any Funeral Director malpractice including the hoarding of the deceased, degrading storage of the deceased including ashes and preventing the lawful burial of the deceased.

Building Public Trust in Funeral Directors

Recent events have highlighted how important trust is when choosing a funeral director. Families deserve the reassurance that their loved one will be cared for with dignity, respect and professionalism at every stage.

At George Ball & Son, we believe trust is built through openness, accountability and consistently high standards.

Our commitment includes:

βœ”οΈ Every call is answered by us – You'll always speak directly to a member of our team, never a call centre or outsourced answering service.

βœ”οΈ Clear, honest pricing – We provide written estimates and publish our prices in line with the CMA Standardised Price List, so families can understand costs with confidence.

βœ”οΈ FCA-regulated funeral plans – Our prepaid funeral plans are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, giving added protection and peace of mind.

βœ”οΈ Professional membership – We are proud voluntary members of both NAFD and SAIF, demonstrating our commitment to recognised professional standards and codes of practice.

βœ”οΈ Certified cremations – Every cremation is fully certificated, with official documentation provided to the family.

βœ”οΈ Keeping families informed – Even with our Direct Cremation service, we tell families when their loved one is transferred to the crematorium and when the cremation takes place.

βœ”οΈ One dedicated point of contact – From your first call until the funeral has taken place, you'll be supported by one member of our family team.

βœ”οΈ Care, compassion and integrity – Every person entrusted to our care is treated with the same dignity and respect we would give our own loved ones.

The funeral profession depends on public trust. We welcome greater transparency and believe that high standards, accountability and appropriate regulation are essential to maintaining that confidence.

πŸ” MYTH MONDAY

❌ Myth: "If you choose a direct cremation, you can't have a service."

βœ… Fact: This is a common misconception.

A direct cremation simply means there is no funeral service at the crematorium before the cremation takes place. It does not mean that you can't have a meaningful service to celebrate and remember your loved one.

At George Ball & Son, we offer families the opportunity to hold a personalised service at a venue of your choosing, either before or after the direct cremation. Whether that's a church, village hall, hotel, community venue, favourite social club, our chapel of rest or even at home, we'll help you create a fitting tribute that reflects the life and wishes of the person being remembered.

This approach gives families greater flexibility, allowing them to gather at a time and place that feels most comfortable, without the time constraints of a traditional crematorium service.

Every farewell should be as unique as the life it celebrates. Whether you choose a traditional funeral, a direct cremation with a memorial service, or something completely personal, we'll guide and support you every step of the way.

Have you heard a funeral myth that you're unsure about? Let us know in the comments, and it might feature in a future .

Today is Samaritans Awareness Day (24/7) – a reminder that someone is always there to listen.

Grief, loss and life's challenges can feel overwhelming at times, and it's important to remember that you don't have to face them alone. Whether you're grieving the loss of a loved one or simply finding life difficult, reaching out for support is a sign of strength.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is check in on a friend, make a phone call, or simply ask, "How are you?"

If someone you know is struggling, your time and willingness to listen could make all the difference.

23/07/2026

There's no right or wrong way to say goodbye. Every family deserves the opportunity to create a meaningful farewell.
