You can't regulate a nervous system nobody ever modelled regulation for.

It's not a discipline problem. It's not a "just breathe" problem. If nobody showed you what calm looked like, of course your body doesn't know how to find it on its own.

This is core to the work we do inside Unravelled - so make sure you follow along!

And drop a comment here to let me know when you realised regulating emotions wasn't something that you were taught. ❤️‍🩹

A narcissistic parent doesn't just withhold love and lack empathy.

They teach you that love is something you compete for - with siblings, with their moods, with their approval.

And that belief doesn't stay in your childhood home. It follows you into every relationship where you're still trying to earn something that should have been freely given.

We unpack this properly inside Unravelled - so click follow!

Save this if this has been your experience and send it to someone who needs to hear this today.

Naming the impact of a parent's impulsivity, unpredictable emotions, unhealthy coping mechanisms, or anything in between is not the same as blame.

It's just finally telling the truth about what you lived through. Truth-telling and blame are not the same thing, even if it's been made to feel that way.

This is exactly the kind of naming work we do inside Unravelled - so click follow so you don't miss out!

Let me know in the comments, do you feel guilty naming your own experiences and emotions? ❤️‍🩹

Masking isn't dishonesty.

It's what a nervous system does when the truth was never met with safety. You didn't choose to hide parts of yourself for fun - you learned it was the safest option available.

Unmasking safely is a big part of the work inside Unravelled - so make sure you click follow so you can see what's coming up!

Comment and let me know what it took to realise you'd been masking, and what toll did this take on you? ❤️‍🩹

Inconsistent love doesn't make a child stop loving.

It just teaches them to stop expecting to be loved back the same way. That quiet lowering of the bar follows you into every relationship after.

We talk about attachment patterns like this inside Unravelled - follow along so you don't miss out on what's to come!

And make sure to send this to someone who you know needs to read this today. ❤️‍🩹

Hypervigilance was never a natural character trait for you.

It's what's left behind after years of needing to predict someone else's mood before they'd even walked through the door - after learning you had to emotionally monitor your parents just to feel safe. Your brain learned to scan for danger because it had to. That doesn't switch off on its own.

Inside Unravelled we work on regulating this, not just naming it - so make sure to follow along for what's to come.

Comment and let me know what it took for you to realise this was something your environment developed in you.❤️‍🩹

Five minutes and fifty minutes can feel identical to someone with ADHD - until the alarm goes off and your insides sink!...

Five minutes and fifty minutes can feel identical to someone with ADHD - until the alarm goes off and your insides sink!

But that’s not you being ‘bad with time’. It’s your brain not sensing it the way other neurotypical brains do.

For an ADHD brain, urgency only switches on once something crosses from “future” into “right now,” which is why waiting until the last possible minute usually isn’t procrastination - it’s often the first moment a task feels real enough to start. It’s only then that your brain gets the neuro chemicals that signal ‘GO!’

And it works the other way too.

Hyperfocus can swallow whole hours without you even noticing it’s happening. Even when part of you knows there’s somewhere to be, breaking out of it can feel genuinely hard, not just inconvenient - which is why “just leave when you notice the time” doesn’t actually work, even when the consequences, feeling embarrassed, upsetting someone else by running late, getting a fine etc are still not enough to transition to the next thing and be on time.

This is exactly what we work on inside Unravelled - so follow along 🫶🏼

Send this to someone who’s always ‘just 5 minutes away’ so they can begin to understand why their brain might work the way it does 🤍

sent me over her new poetry book. She expresses what life looks and feels like when you have a narcissistic mother. She writes about the mixed emotions, confusion, pain and attempts at repair.

Here’s a little snippet - go ahead & follow her for more. 🫶

Did you feel shame or guilt when you started setting boundaries or creating distance? How did you navigate that? Let me know in the comments 🤍

Understanding why a parent struggled doesn't erase what it cost you.

Both things are allowed to be true at once - compassion for them, and grief for what you didn't get. You don't have to choose one to be allowed the other.

Holding both is a core part of the Unravelled approach - we don't blame, but it is a space where you begin to understand, develop language for your experiences, and with time, learn to be kinder to yourself - giving yourself the same compassion you've given to others for years.

Save this post if this resonates and send it to someone who you think needs to hear this. ❤️‍🩹

You can hold compassion for a parent who never got support.

And still grieve the version of childhood you didn't get because of what that lack of support cost you. Compassion for them was never supposed to cancel out grief for you.

We make room for both inside Unravelled - so click follow so you don't miss out on what's to come!

Make sure to send this to someone who you know needs to read this. ❤️‍🩹
