💛 Sometimes it isn’t about wanting your life to end… it’s about desperately wanting the pain to end.
When someone is suicidal, it can be difficult for those around them to understand what they are feeling.
It may not be that they want to leave the people they love.
It may not be that they want to disappear.
It may simply be that they cannot see another way to escape what they are carrying.
Emotional pain can become so overwhelming that a person can lose sight of any other option.
That’s why listening matters.
Not judging.
Not telling someone they have so much to live for.
Not saying “others have it worse.”
Not trying to immediately fix everything.
Sometimes, what someone needs most is for somebody to sit beside them in that darkness and say:
“I’m here. You don’t have to carry this alone.”
If you’re worried about someone, ask them how they really are. And if you’re struggling yourself, please tell someone.
You don’t need to wait until things become unbearable before asking for help.
There is always a reason to reach out, even if you can’t see the reason to carry on right now. 💛
September is Su***de Prevention Month. Let’s keep talking. Let’s keep listening. Let’s keep checking in.
