Ever seen a flash of movement or a shadow out of the "corner of your eye," only for it to vanish when you turn to look? đťđď¸
In the paranormal world, we call these corner-of-the-eye sightings, and they are one of the most common experiences people report. But what exactly is happening?
As both a psychic medium and a paranormal investigator, I look at this through two lenses: the spiritual and the scientific.
đ§ The Science: Peripheral Sensitivity
Our eyes are designed for survival. While our central vision is great for detail and colour, our peripheral vision is incredibly sensitive to motion and light. Itâs handled by "rods" in the retina, which work better in low light than the "cones" we use for direct focus.
Sometimes, this leads to Pareidoliaâour brains trying to make sense of a random shadow or a glint of light by turning it into a recognisable shape, like a person.
⨠The Spiritual: Why "The Corner"?
From a mediumâs perspective, spirits often vibrate at a frequency that is just outside our normal range of sight. When we look at something directly, our logical brain "filters" our reality.
However, our peripheral vision is less filtered. Itâs often where the veil is thinnest. You might be catching a glimpse of an energetic imprint or a spirit moving through a space before they have the energy to fully manifestâor before your conscious mind has the chance to dismiss it.
đľď¸ââď¸ How to Investigate It
If this is happening to you often, try these steps:
Rule out the mundane: Check for reflective surfaces, passing cars, or even "eye floaters."
Acknowledge the feeling: Did the sighting come with a sudden drop in temperature or a "prickle" on your skin?
Donât chase it: If you see something, try to stay still and soften your gaze rather than snapping your head toward it. This keeps you in that receptive state.
Have you experienced this recently? Was it a fleeting shadow or something more?
