18 years ago today my beloved father left earth. Loosing him was unbearable. He was fiery, passionate and deeply romantic. Dad was a poet and wrote often displaying his love. Dad held us all, safely protecting us and many more. With 6 women in his household he remained stable and strong as we all navigated life. The harbour wall to our waves.
Dad grew up with none of this. He determined to offer us something very different. He showed us compassion, empathy, courage and kindness. He was incredibly beautiful and funny too!
Needless to say I felt broken. I had to find a way to piece my heart back together.
And here I am. Initiated by pain and grief I devoted hours to the practice of yoga. Deepening into feeling and gradually strengthening and opening my heart. This journey has led me to discover so much beauty. Quite literally breathing love and life back into every corner of my life.
It’s good to note that this journey is not linear. Every moment is an opportunity to breathe and connect.
When the body is contracted and numb from pain, grief , anxiety, trauma, it forces the mind to stay in a similar state. Driving us away from experiencing the emotion and instead storing it away in the body.
Sitting for a moment and just being with the breath changes how we feel. Giving us time to respond rather than react. This fundamental process offers a different perspective. Gradually we build the foundations of a deeply transformative relationship with ourselves.
I owe many years of personal transformation and the incredible expansion of a beautiful community of people to the practice of yoga, and so to my beloved father ♥️
