☯️ What happens when you stop trying to make the mind quiet?

This evening’s Friday Stillness Gate is an opportunity to step out of the momentum of the week and explore a quieter form of practice.

Through guided Daoist meditation, we work with the relationship between body, breath, attention and stillness. There is nothing special you need to achieve. Thoughts can come and go. Sensations can change. The practice is simply to become more familiar with what is happening without immediately having to follow it.

☯️ Friday Reset: Return, Notice, Refine

Sometimes progress does not come from doing more.

It comes from returning to something familiar and noticing it differently.

In this morning’s Friday Reset, we’ll use authentic Tai Chi to explore how a movement can gradually become clearer through practice. The shape may be familiar, but each return gives us another chance to notice the feet, the weight, the direction of the movement, the amount of effort we are using, and how the whole body begins to work together.

This is not about performing perfectly.

It is about becoming more attentive to what you are already doing, and allowing the practice to become a little more connected each time you return to it.

What We Practise, We Become ☯️

What we practise repeatedly begins to shape what becomes familiar.

In Tai Chi and Qigong, repetition is not simply about doing the same movement again and again.

It is how we begin to recognise balance, coordination, grounding, breath, continuity and unnecessary tension more clearly from within.

At first, a movement may feel like a collection of separate instructions. With practice, those pieces can begin to connect. Attention gradually shifts from remembering the shape to actually experiencing the movement.

This is part of what we mean when we say:

What we practise, we become.

And the quality of repetition matters.

Mechanical practice can reinforce rushing, tension and poor habits just as easily as attentive practice can help refine a more skilful relationship with movement.

So when you practise, do not simply ask:

“Did I remember the movement?”

Ask:

“What quality am I repeating?”

☯️ Tonight: Centering, Harmony of Yin & Yang

If your body feels tired but your mind is still carrying the day, tonight’s online session offers a quieter way to transition towards rest.

Join me, Dr Jar, for an integrated hour of Tai Chi, Qigong and Daoist meditation, with tonight’s practice focused especially on supporting better sleep.

We will work with:

☯️ releasing accumulated tension
☯️ settling the breath
☯️ reducing unnecessary effort
☯️ helping body and mind prepare for deeper rest

The aim is not to force sleep or promise a particular outcome. It is to create better conditions for settling, so the system has a chance to move out of the day’s momentum.

☯️ Today’s Qigong Session in Swansea

This afternoon we continue this week’s Apex Tai Chi intention:

What We Practise, We Become

In Qigong, repetition is not about mindlessly doing the same movement again and again.

It is a chance to refine how we stand, breathe, move and pay attention.

Today we will explore that through 调身、调息、调心, regulating the body, breath and mind together, with simple repeated movements that help us notice where effort is unnecessary and where movement can become more integrated.

The guiding question is:

What changes when we repeat the movement with more awareness?

☯️ Mark this in your calendar for the end of the week

By Friday evening, the body may be tired but the mind can still be carrying work, worry, responsibility and unfinished thoughts.

The Friday Stillness Gate offers 45 minutes to step out of that momentum and into a quieter practice.

Join me, Dr Jar, for an online Daoist meditation exploring the relationship between body, breath, mind and Qi.

There is no need to empty the mind or create a special state. The practice is simply to sit, notice what is present, soften unnecessary effort and become more familiar with stillness.

No previous meditation experience is needed.

☯️ Monday Tai Chi in Llansamlet, this morning

Start the week with an hour of authentic Tai Chi and Qigong practice, working with posture, weight transfer, balance, breathing and whole-body awareness.

This week’s Apex Tai Chi intention is:
What We Practise, We Become

Across the week, we will be exploring how repetition helps movement, attention and embodied awareness become more familiar over time.

The emphasis is not on doing more for the sake of it, but on practising with enough attention that each repetition becomes useful.

In today’s session, that means noticing how we stand, shift weight, breathe, coordinate and return to the same principles with a little more clarity each time.

☯️ Today, Monday

10:00 to 11:00 am
Trallwn Community Centre
Bethel Road, Llansamlet, Swansea SA7 9QP.

Beginners are welcome, and the practice can be explored within a comfortable range.

Your week may have finished. Your mind may not have.

Sometimes the work stops, the messages stop and the day becomes quieter, but internally everything is still moving.

Thoughts continue. The body remains tense. Attention keeps jumping ahead to what needs doing next.

Tonight, The Friday Stillness Gate offers a different way to finish the week.

For 45 minutes, we move away from doing and towards listening.

Through guided Daoist meditation, we explore the relationship between body, breath, mind and Qi, allowing unnecessary effort to soften and attention to become quieter and more settled.

You do not need to empty your mind.

You do not need previous meditation experience.

And there is no particular state you are expected to achieve.

The practice is simply to sit, notice what is present, and become more familiar with the quieter dimensions of your own experience.

This connects closely with our current Apex theme, From Reactivity to Responsiveness.

☯️ Access the Stillness Gate Portal:
https://stillnessgate.apextaichi.com/join

Before we can respond differently, we first need enough space to recognise what is actually happening.

Come for the stillness. Leave with a little more room inside the moment.
