🏔️ Snowdon Challenge Update – We've Passed £500! 🎉

With just two weeks to go until we take on Snowdon on 26th June, we're delighted to share that we've now raised over £500 for Syston and District Volunteer Centre!

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far, whether online or by dropping cash into the clinic. Your support means a great deal to us and, more importantly, will help a fantastic local charity continue providing vital transport and support services to people across our community.

Training is very much underway. There have been plenty of walks, hills, squats and sore legs along the way, but we're making (some!) progress and looking forward to the challenge ahead. Sophie, Paul, Paul's wife Jane, and Sophie's husband will all be taking on the climb together.

Our next target? We'd love to get as close to £1,000 as possible before challenge day.

🏔️ 5 Weeks to go! Snowdon Challenge Training Update

The training walks are officially underway!

A few recent miles logged as we start preparing for the Snowdon climb on Friday 26th June in support of Syston & District Volunteer Centre.

Sophie has been hitting the walking machine and upgrading her fitness tracking, the all important hiking shoes are being purchased and Paul has been exploring some new corners of Bradgate Park.

We love a discreet solution... but who says hearing technology has to be boring?

🏔️ Snowdon Challenge Update – The Date Is Set!

The plans are now officially in place — and on Friday 26th June, the Optimal Hearing team will be taking on the challenging Pyg Track route to the summit of Snowdon in support of Syston & District Volunteer Centre.

What started as an idea has now become very real. Travel plans are booked, training is well underway, and fundraising has already begun both online and in clinic.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the challenge so far. Thanks to donations through our GoFundMe page, alongside generous cash donations brought into the clinic, we’ve already raised £335 — which is a fantastic start for a charity that quietly does so much for local people.

For many elderly and vulnerable residents in our area, Syston & District Volunteer Centre provides a genuine lifeline through its volunteer-led transport services — helping people attend medical appointments, go shopping, and remain socially connected and independent.

The challenge team has also grown slightly! Alongside Paul and Sophie from Optimal Hearing, Paul’s wife and Sophie’s husband will also be completing the climb.

Training has definitely stepped up over recent weeks too. Sophie and her family are now becoming regulars at Old John in Bradgate Park, finding increasingly creative and challenging ways to scale the hill in preparation for Snowdon.

At around 8 miles in total with steep sections and significant elevation, the Pyg Track is no small challenge, but we’re determined to make the effort count for a cause that means a great deal to our local community.

Some days at the clinic, it really hits home just how many lives we’re part of changing.

Each of these bags represents a hearing aid fitting — but more importantly, it represents someone hearing their family more clearly, feeling more confident in conversation, and reconnecting with the world around them as well as possible.

It’s detailed, careful work behind the scenes… but moments like this are a great reminder of the bigger picture.

And while we take the clinical side seriously, there’s always room for a smile along the way 😊

🏔️ Snowdon Challenge – Supporting Our Local Community

This summer, we’re swapping clinic rooms for climbing boots.

Sophie and Paul at Optimal Hearing will be taking on the Pyg Track, a steep and challenging 2,372ft Route to summit Snowdon, to raise money for a truly important local charity — Syston and District Volunteer Centre.

For many people in our community, their volunteer-led transport service is a lifeline — helping elderly and vulnerable residents get to medical appointments, go shopping, and stay socially connected.

In our work, we see every day how important connection is. Hearing is one part of that — but being able to physically get out and about matters just as much. Supporting this charity felt like a natural fit for us.

Around 8 miles in total, this will be a real team challenge, but we’re training already and are committed to doing something meaningful to support a service that quietly makes a big difference locally.

On the back of resurrecting this hearing aid last week, it’s worth taking a closer look at a very common issue we see 👇

Regardless of how well selected and programmed, a hearing aid can only perform as well as the condition it’s in — and even a small blockage can significantly reduce sound quality, clarity, and overall performance.

Some, like this one, become completely blocked. Most wearers don’t have the expertise, specialist equipment, or confidence to carry out routine cleaning — never mind resolve something like this.

Build-up of everyday debris, such as earwax or moisture, affects how sound travels into and through the instrument. Some people are more prone to this than others — it’s nobody’s fault.

Regular maintenance and checks can make a remarkable difference, often restoring poorly performing devices and helping your hearing aids continue to work as they should.

If your hearing aid — or a relative’s — looks anything like this, or if things don’t sound quite right, it’s always worth having them looked at. There’s no need for an appointment — simply drop your hearing aid into our service desk and we’ll be happy to help.

Behind the scenes today we’re assessing and modelling a range of potential solutions for a lovely lady experiencing difficulties and not hearing well with her old hearing aid.

Where hearing loss and individual needs are particularly complex, this approach is essential. By carefully narrowing down the most appropriate options before proceeding, we can ensure a more precise and effective outcome.

The aim is always the same: optimal hearing performance, comfort, and ease of use.

Sometimes taking this additional time behind closed doors to get it right is a key part of the process.
