Ankle Rehabilitation: Stage One – Regain Motion and Stability
Stage one of ankle rehabilitation focuses on restoring range of motion, safely reintroducing load to the joint, managing swelling, and re-establishing weight-bearing capacity.
If you’re currently injured or finding your rehab progress slow, don’t wait. Book a consultation or send us a message—rest alone won’t resolve the issue.
Key Exercises for Stage One Rehab
1. Knee-to-Wall Stretch – 3 sets of 10 reps
Improves ankle dorsiflexion, which reduces re-injury risk, decreases stress on other lower limb joints, and promotes optimal biomechanics.
2. Single-Leg Balance – 3 sets of 30 seconds
Encourages safe joint loading while retraining proprioception and improving ankle stability.
3. Resistance Band Plantar Flexion – 3 sets of 10 reps
Strengthens the ankle through its full range, supports calf and Achilles tendon strength, and enhances joint stability.
4. Banded Dorsiflexion – 3 sets of 10 reps
Enhances mobility and strength in the ankle and may also help alleviate symptoms of conditions such as ankle impingement.
5. Resistance Band Inversion – 3 sets of 10 reps
Targets the medial ankle, improving strength, mobility, and overall joint stability.
6. Resistance Band Eversion – 3 sets of 10 reps
Strengthens the lateral ankle structures and improves flexibility and mobility across the ankle complex.
