🌟 Communication Is More Than Words 🌟
👀 Communication isn't just spoken words. Children communicate their thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs in many different ways, not just by using spoken words.
🗣️ When we notice and respond to these messages, we show children that all of their communication is powerful and meaningful.
💬 Your child might be communicating through:
✨ Looking at something they want
✨ Pointing or reaching
✨ Bringing you a toy or object
✨ Smiling, laughing, or showing excitement
✨ Moving away from something they don't like
✨ Gestures, facial expressions, and body language
🧒 Your child might be trying to communicate for different reasons such as what they want, don't want, or to share what they are doing:
💛 "More bubbles"
💛 "All done"
💛 "The horse is jumping"
💛 "Let's go home"
💛 "Don't like that"
🌱 Every time we respond to a child's communication, whether it's a look, gesture, sound, or word, we help them learn to know that their message has been understood. This builds connection, confidence, and supports the development of future communication skills.
💙 Remember: communication isn't just talking. Every look, gesture and expression is a chance to connect.
