πΏ Aromatherapy & dental anxiety β promising new research
A large 2026 scoping review examined 20 clinical trials involving 3,460 people undergoing dental procedures.
The findings are encouraging. β¨
π Most of the studies assessing anxiety reported favourable results with aromatherapy.
While the evidence around pain reduction was less consistent, the findings on anxiety highlight an important area for further research.
The research also reflects how the field of aromatherapy is developing.
Rather than simply exploring whether essential oils help people feel relaxed, researchers are increasingly investigating measurable effects on anxiety, stress, sleep and wellbeing.
The next stage is understanding more about:
πΏ Which essential oils are most effective
π§ͺ Which chemical constituents may be responsible
π§ What dose produces the best response
π Which method of administration is most appropriate
There is still much to discover, but research such as this contributes to a growing evidence base exploring the potential role of aromatherapy in supporting anxiety, stress and wellbeing.
πΏ An exciting area of research for the future of aromatherapy.
