It’s interesting to read how others saw your ancestors. My great grandfather Joseph Collins Fry left Somerset with 3 brothers and moved to London. He and two brothers worked on the railways. Reading some documents from GWR regarding him, he is described as “a scruffy little man” • He worked on the railways moving along what is now known as the M4 corridor having children along the way. Ending the journey in Cardiff!!

Trying to find the street where Emily Beaverstock, my great-grandmother was born.
It was just off the Vauxhall Bridge Road... think it may be off the map!
Do you like finding places your ancestors once lived on old maps?

Having found the location of the final resting place of my 2x great grandparents William Stuart & Sarah Major I thought it would be easy as they were buried in the consecrated ground of the Mortuary Chapel. Little did I know when visiting the cemetery that the chapel had been demolished!! I’ll find them next time...

Francis Charles “Charlie” Major was the brother of my maternal grandfather. Sadly he died aged 17 years, a competent violinist. Music was in the family but it bypassed me, my mam and grandfather!! Do you have musical ancestors?

On this day in 1876 my great-granduncle Frederick William Stuart Major was born at the Barracks, Harrowby, Grantham, Lincolnshire. Unlike his father and many other family members he did not join the army. He grew up in South Wales and was a coal miner, joining many family members who relocated to Handsworth in the 1920’s.

So very true…
I like some others worry when people put our family members in their trees, but they don’t belong!!
It’s just up to us to be as accurate as we can be with “our” tree and “our” family.

This is Beethoven Street School, it was opened in 1881 to serve the community of the newly-built Queen’s Park Estate, London. My 1st cousin 3x removed Emily Johnson started school here in 1882. She lived with her family at 61 Warlock Street, a short 3 minute walk to school according to google!!

When researching your family history it pays to research siblings and not just direct ancestors. This is the marriage entry for Mary Rachel Griffiths my great grandfather’s sister. This shows that in 1894 my 2nd great grandfather George Griffiths had a different occupation to the census of 1891 & 1901. Next job is to investigate what a “Trinity Buoy Master” entailed and what documents I can locate! Happy hunting...
