A tree fell on my moving car this weekend.

The timing was such that it skimmed me. A matter of moments, a slightly different position on the road, and the outcome could have been very different.

One thing I’ve learned through trauma work is that our nervous systems don’t measure events only by what happened. They also register how close we came to harm.

People often say, “At least you’re okay,” and I understand the intention behind it. I am grateful to be here and for the support I received at the time from strangers. But I’m also completely exhausted.

Not because I’m ungrateful. Not because I’m dwelling on it. But because surviving something frightening takes ALOT of energy. The adrenaline that helps us respond in a crisis doesn’t simply disappear when the danger is over.

My body knows the danger has passed. My nervous system is still catching up.

I’m allowing myself the grace to recover from something that was both survivable and deeply frightening.

Sometimes healing isn’t about being strong. Sometimes it’s about acknowledging that a human nervous system has limits, and that rest is part of recovery.

PTSD isn’t always loud.

It isn’t always flashbacks.
It isn’t always nightmares.
It isn’t always what people see in movies.

Sometimes it looks like:

Overthinking every situation.
Replaying conversations for hours after they end.
Scanning every room for exits.
Sitting with your back to the wall.
Jumping at unexpected sounds.
Feeling tense even when everything seems okay.

Sometimes it looks like avoiding certain places, people, or memories.

Sometimes it looks like always having a backup plan.
Always preparing for the worst.
Always waiting for something to go wrong.

And sometimes it just looks like exhaustion.
Because living in a constant state of alertness is exhausting.

That's why so many people struggle in silence.

Their wounds are invisible.
Their effort is invisible.
Their survival is invisible.

June is PTSD Awareness Month.

So if you're carrying scars from experiences you never should have had to survive, this is your reminder:

What happened to you matters.
What you're carrying is real.
And you deserve to be seen, understood, and supported.

Very excited and thankful that I have the opportunity of fabulous new office space just outside Portreath to run my business from. Still in the process of making it feel like home this week but will be ready for sessions this week.

We all know I love a sunset pic 🌅 this week instead of my planned weeks leave for business admin catch up and a spot of DIY I listened to my body and brain and what I actually needed.

Nothing like taking advantage of the adhd dopamine seeking urge of a last minute holiday!! At least that’s my excuse 🙌

The last three months has seen my world tipped upside down virtually overnight unexpectedly on a number of occasions hitting like waves; so consequently I’ve been slammed with an onslaught of grief for different reasons which has taken some adjusting to and working through.

When grief is multidimensional coming from several losses and life disruptions at the same time it hits with a different intensity - instead of mourning one thing you end up grieving multiple layers simultaneously, which rocks your sense of safety and trust, identity and stability- it can also reactivate earlier unresolved losses.

When embedded in grief dopamine enables us to have a shift in focus, increase in energy, engagement in life and reminder of who we are outside of the grief container providing relief and hope.

When you finish the last session of the week before 10 days leave and this is five minutes walk away 👌🌊 🌅

Therapy dogs

I absolutely adore watching my dogs Rose and Bertie at work and play. The calming reassurance they bring to the therapy room is so supportive for clients.
Client’s get a reduction in heart rate, blood pressure and stress chemicals in their bodies and get a boost of positive love and relaxation chemicals when working with animals in therapy.
Therapy dogs offer unconditional and non judgemental love and comfort - both my dogs are very intuitive when clients have high stress and emotion and provide comfort.
Rose and Bertie are also great ice breakers for new clients or ones with high anxiety and both genuinely love meeting and interacting with new people.

Balance and listening to what our body and brains needs and going with the ebb and flow when this changes is so important for wellbeing

Finding Balance (Without Abandoning Ourselves)

“Balance” has been a quiet theme in my life recently.

As someone with a monotropic brain, I don’t tend to do things in halves.
I can become deeply absorbed in what matters to me — which can be beautiful, creative, and generative… but it can also mean that other areas of life fall into the background.

It’s often an all-or-nothing rhythm.

What I’m learning is that balance doesn’t come from pushing against that tendency, or trying to force myself into a more “even” way of being.

It comes from attunement.

From noticing:
🪷When my body is leaning too far into one area
🪷 When something else is quietly asking for attention
🪷When I need to pause, rather than push forward

Balance, for me, is less about doing everything equally — and more about maintaining a sense of coherence between the different parts of my life.

Sometimes that means stepping back.
Letting one thing soften so something else can come into focus.

At the moment, that’s looked like my social media presence becoming quieter, while other areas of my life have needed more of my presence, capacity, and care.

And rather than seeing that as failure, I’m trying to meet it with understanding.
Because a regulated nervous system doesn’t come from constant output.
It comes from knowing when to lean in… and when to gently step back.

Where in your life might you be leaning too far — and what would it feel like to bring a little more balance, without force or self-judgement?💜

Hi, I’m Sarah (she/her) and I thought it about time I did an update.

18 months in business, 2 dogs, 2 horses… and a lot of personal and business growth since I started ✨

I’m a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming therapist working with adults and adolescents (secondary school age+ mostly although happy to do family work/joint sessions with younger children including psycho-education so please ask) based in Porthtowan, Cornwall 🏡 — although most of my work is online.

I specialise with over 25yrs experience in neurodivergence, anxiety, and trauma recovery, alongside supporting families navigating EBSA, home education, EOTAS, EHCPs, and tribunals — very much my world atm, both professionally and personally.

My approach is creative and low-demand, particularly for PDA profiles. Sessions might look like walk-and-talks with my dog to the local beach or some clients from London or abroad that I work with walk and talk in their local parks on a video or audio session with me as they feel more regulated and open to speak whilst moving, time with the horses, or art-based work — because therapy doesn’t have to happen sitting still in a room.

Alongside counselling and psycho-education , I’m training in Reiki and passionate about holistic, somatic trauma work. Restoring a sense of safety in the body is key — talking alone isn’t enough.

Before this, I spent 15 years as a Local Authority Social Worker and later worked as a Care Manager, alongside years of training professionals, parents, and carers on topics related to neurodivergence.

Empowering people with knowledge and confidence is at the heart of what I do - I love working with individuals, families and couples supporting them to understand and communicate their needs effectively; to build or rebuild trusting, supportive, flourishing relationships.

Now I run my own practice, offering a space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported to move forward.

Common areas we can explore include anxiety, trauma, regulation, depression, grief, diagnosis, autistic burnout, pacing, self-harm, OCD, anger, identity, and parenting — always with a focus on understanding your responses and building safer, more compassionate ways forward.

I’m a single mum of four (two young adults and two teens), with a lively mix of dogs, cats, and horses.

Outside of work: you’ll find me walking, near the water (often in it 🥶), at the gym, reading or cooking.

If you’d like to know more or work together, feel free to get in touch or book a free 15-minute consultation.
