The long, silky coat is the true breed-standard look for the Maltese. 🤍 Unlike many breeds, the Maltese has hair rather than fur, meaning it grows continuously and can reach the floor when properly cared for.

This beautiful coat wasn’t just bred for appearance. It also helped protect the dog’s delicate skin while highlighting the elegance the breed has been known for for centuries.

Keeping a Maltese in full coat takes commitment. Daily brushing, regular bathing, thorough drying, and routine grooming are essential to prevent knots and keep the coat healthy and silky.

A full coat isn’t for everyone, but it’s always wonderful to see this breed wearing the look it was originally bred to have.

Would you choose a flowing show coat or a practical puppy trim?

Meet the Maltipoo! 🤍

The Maltipoo is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle, a small dog with a big personality!

✨ Intelligent and easy to train
✨ Affectionate and loves being around people
✨ Low-shedding, but high-maintenance when it comes to grooming
✨ Often keeps that adorable puppy look well into adulthood

Although they don’t shed much, their soft coats can mat very quickly without regular brushing and professional grooming.

Is your Maltipoo a cuddle bug or a little troublemaker? 🐶

This is something we see all the time as groomers.

There has been a long debate about whether ear hair should be plucked. The truth is, it depends on the dog.

❌ When we don’t recommend plucking:

* If the ear hair is light, healthy and not causing any problems.
* Unnecessary plucking can irritate the delicate skin inside the ear, and in some dogs this irritation may increase the risk of infection.

✅ When plucking is beneficial:

* The ear hair is heavily matted or impacted.
* It’s trapping dirt, wax and moisture.
* Air can’t circulate properly.

In cases like this, leaving the hair in place often causes more irritation than carefully removing it.

The benefits of regular ear care:
✔️ Better airflow inside the ear.
✔️ Less trapped moisture and debris.
✔️ Easier to monitor ear health.
✔️ More comfortable for your dog.
✔️ A dog that gets used to gentle ear handling and plucking from a young age is usually much more relaxed during grooming.

Every dog is different, which is why we always assess the ears before deciding what is best. Our goal is never to pluck for the sake of it, it’s to keep your dog’s ears healthy, clean and comfortable ❤️
