It’s that time of year again … much as it’s lovely to see the sunshine ☀️ do stay safe and hydrated 🥵
☀️ Mental Health Meds + Hot Weather = A Rough Combo 🥵
Let’s talk about something important — especially if you’re on SSRIs or similar meds and you're wondering why the heat feels like it’s out to get you...
If you're on antidepressants (especially SSRIs or tricyclics), this weather might be hitting harder than usual. Not just the mood dips, the low motivation, or the emotional overwhelm — but actual physical effects.
These meds can mess with how your body regulates heat. That means:
🔥 You might sweat more than usual (even if you never used to)
🌡️ You might overheat faster
💧 You might get dehydrated more easily
🧠 And when your body’s out of balance, your nervous system follows — dysregulation, brain fog, irritability, overwhelm, emotional shutdown... sound familiar?
It’s not just in your head. It’s real. And it’s something many people aren’t told about.
Here’s what can help:
💧 Hydrate more than you think you need to (little and often)
🌿 Rest in cool spaces when you can
🧊 Cool your wrists, neck, and feet — quick wins
🪷 Don’t push through when your body’s saying "nope"
🧘♀️ Be kind to yourself — low energy isn’t laziness, it’s your nervous system doing its best in tough conditions.
If you’re feeling more emotional, on edge, zoned out, or just generally struggling — this could be part of it. You’re not failing. You’re a human on meds in heatwave-level weather.
🌻 Share with someone you love if you think they might need to hear this. Let’s look out for each other.
I see how hard it is sometimes. You're doing better than you think. And if you’re struggling with dysregulation, trauma, or emotional burnout, I’m here.
