Somewhere in your 40s, the friends you used to see every week become the friends you mean to text back — and it's one of the most well-documented, least-talked-about patterns in UK men's health.
Men aged 40-49 have the UK's highest male su***de rate (Mental Health Foundation). Only 1 in 10 men turn to family or friends when facing a genuine challenge (Movember). And male friendships tend to be built around shared activity rather than shared conversation — so when the five-a-side or the regular pint stops, the friendship often stops with it.
We've put together a full, evidence-led guide covering the data, why it happens, and — most importantly — what genuinely helps: Men's Sheds, Andy's Man Club, CALM, NHS Talking Therapies, and Samaritans. All free. None require a referral or diagnosis.
