Well we’ve had a fabulous day in the woods today. The Families that joined us were very lovely, the Gruffalo crumble was very tasty and the activities kept us busy all day!

Thank you to Good Bubble for the gifts of Gruffalo bubble bath to share with families, everyone was very grateful for those.

If any of the lovely families took any photos that they wouldn’t mind sharing please feel free to add them in the comments as we were too busy all day to take many!!

Hope to see you all again sometime.
Oh, and to the young man that has been coming to my sessions since he was a very little boy, it was great to see you again after all this time. I passed on your hello to Kate. Hopefully we’ll bump into you again sometime 😁

Summer fun in the woods for children.
10am - 3pm, drop off sessions for 5yrs and over.
With time for games, activities, crafts, free play, den building, adventures. New friends, new discoveries and lots of laughter, all in the fresh air.

5 hours of fun for only £18.50 thanks to our Awards for All Lottery funding. (Plus small booking fee)

Led by qualified and experienced forest school practitioner.

12th August, 3 spaces
13th August, 7 spaces.

Whether your child has joined us before or they're coming along for the fitrst time, they will be very welcome in the woods.

⚠ With devastating fires ripping through the countryside we'd like to ask everyone to be extra careful when visiting woodlands and the countryside.

The current hot, dry conditions means that it takes just one careless moment for a fire to spread with devastating consequences for wildlife, neighbouring land, local communities and peoples livelihoods.

Sadly, in the woods we've found evidence of people removing stones from established fire pits and using them to have fires a few feet away on dry ground beneath over hanging trees. We've even found them left smouldering and have had to put them out!

This post isn't to critisize anyone, but is to ask people to please think carefully about your actions in the countryside. Even discarded bottles can start fires in these conditions. So please, be sensible, and vigilant and help us protect our natural spaces.

We know that the vast majority of people care about these natural places as much as we do.

If you see anything that concerns you in Shining Cliff Woods - let us know.
If you see a fire or there's an immediate risk to life or property, call 999.
It's better to investigate something that turns out to be okay than deal with the consequences of wild fires.

Thank you to everyone who visits responsibly, let's all look after our natural spaces together.

Last chance to grab the last family space at the Gruffalo session on 4th August.
Ticket sales close at 9pm on Monday evening and we have room for 1 more family!

UPDATE: This place is now taken.

1 space has just become available to the Forest Bathing & Hammoch Meditation on 6th August due to a cancellation.
Join us at 10am in Shining Cliff Woods for one hour a guided forest bathing followed by a relaxing body scan medditation as you rest in a hannoch under the trees. We then enjoy hot drinks and conversatioon before the session ends at 12pm.

The future of our Home Ed Family sessions:

If you have attended our Home Ed sessions before or were thinking of joining us from September or you know a family who might be interested, please read on...

We've been talking to you and listening to your feedback and thinking carefully about how we can continue offering our Home Ed provision in the months ahead.
As our Lottery funding comes towards it's end, we want to do everything we can to keep these wonderful days going, but we do need to make some changes to help them be sustainable.

There is a lot that we have to take into consideration, such as proposed future charges for site use, little changes to our own team, and financial viability of the sessions.

From September, we're proposing:

🌳 Home Ed Family sessions will run fortnightly on Tuesdays at Shining Cliff Woods only. (The Shaw Wood sessions will not continue.)
🌳 2 hours from 10am - 12pm
💳 A slight increase in ticket prices to £6.50 per person but this will include the Eventbrite booking fee - therefore costing you £1.46 more per person.
🌳 The sessions will be delivered by one leader rather than two - Forest School level 3 qualified, outdoor first aid trained, DBS checked, fully insured and everything else required!

Before finalising these plans, we'd really love your feedback

Just pondering and would really like your thoughts on this please...
Our Chill & Chat session only ever gets small numbers as it's on a weekday when many of you are busy working.
So what if we moved it to an evening?

Chill & Chat is just a really relaxed gathering at the woodland campfire with no hidden agenda, just hot drinks, conversation and plenty of biscuits!
It's a great way to take some time out in an evening and offers a lovely alternative to a noisy bar!

If we made this swap it would most likely be on a Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30. Obviously it would be dark in the later Autumn and winter months so it would be a 10 minute torchlight wander through the woods to join us and to return to your car.

I'd really love to hear your thoughts on this.
