Contact lenses are made from non-biodegradable materials, including hydrogel and silicone hydrogel, which means they should never go into your household recycling bin.

At The Eye Place, we’re proud to be part of a contact lens recycling programme to ensure your old lenses are disposed of responsibly.

Recycling your lenses is easy. Simply collect your used used contact lenses, blister packs, and foil from the packaging, then bring them into your local The Eye Place practice. We’ll take care of the rest! ♻️👁️

Heading off on an end of summer getaway with contact lenses? ✈️☀️

A little preparation can go a long way when it comes to keeping your eyes comfortable while you travel. Pack a spare pair of specs so you can give your eyes a break from your lenses if they start to feel dry or uncomfortable, especially during long journeys. 👓

It’s also worth taking some suitable lubricating eye drops, as the dry air in aeroplane cabins can leave your eyes feeling irritated. And don’t forget to pack plenty of contact lenses and solution for your trip, plus a few extras in case of delays, lost supplies or changes to your plans.

With a little planning, travelling with contact lenses can be simple and stress free.

This week is Contact Lens Health Week, the perfect reminder to give your contact lens routine a quick health check. 👁️

Contact lenses are a safe and effective way to correct your vision, but only when they're cared for properly. Poor lens hygiene can increase your risk of eye infections, irritation, and even sight threatening complications.

Keep your eyes healthy by remembering to:

• Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses.
• Always store reusable lenses in fresh contact lens solution. Never top up old solution.
• Never sleep in your contact lenses unless your optician has specifically advised they are suitable for overnight wear.
• Remove your lenses immediately if you notice redness, discomfort, blurred vision, or unusual sensitivity, and contact your eye care professional.

Regular eye exams and contact lens aftercare appointments are just as important as good daily habits. They help ensure your prescription remains accurate and that your eyes stay healthy.
