I’ve been thinking about one of the longest threads running through my working life.
Since I was 18, managing children’s homes, through qualifying as a social worker in 1999, and later supporting foster carers, managers, professionals and businesses. I’ve spent thousands of hours holding reflective conversations with people.
The word supervision never really fitted.
It wasn’t about someone checking up on you or telling you what to do.
It was about having a space where you could be completely honest. A place to think out loud, notice what was happening in your life and make sense of it with someone alongside you.
I’ve always believed these conversations shouldn’t only be available to professionals.
They’re just as valuable for parents trying to hold family life together.
For people in relationships.
For those caring for others.
For business owners.
For people carrying responsibility.
For anyone who spends so much time looking after everyone else that they begin to lose sight of themselves.
One of the things people often say after spending time with me is that they don’t feel judged. That’s important to me because I don’t believe people think clearly when they’re worrying about saying the right thing. They think clearly when they feel safe enough to be honest.
I’ve invested in this kind of reflective space myself for many years. My children have it too. Not because we’re in crisis, but because we value having somewhere to stop, look at life honestly and notice what may benefit from our attention.
So I’m making more room for one-to-one Reflective Space.
It’s not therapy.
It’s not coaching.
It’s simply time that’s set aside for you.
A confidential, thoughtful space to look at your life with someone who’s spent decades helping people do exactly that.
If that sounds like something you’ve been missing, I’d love to hear from you.
