When biomechanics were introduced, not only did it reduce the induction rate but also increased the amount of baby’s born before 41 weeks AND reduced the caesarean rate.
A back to back baby can contribute to a pregnancy being longer as well as a longer labour.
There are many things that could make it more likely for you to carry a baby in a back to back position such as office jobs, long commute to work, injuries that effect the way you walk, pelvic injuries, poor posture etc. It’s hard to know whether back to back baby’s have increased over time or if it is just something that we know more about. But what we do know is that they increase the chances of being offered intervention but, the position of baby is also something that we can influence too.
I’m all about giving you tools to stack the odds in your favour for birth to go your way. Biomechanics is one of these tools.
