I was lucky enough to catch this terrific exhibition today Treasure House Fair - last day is tomorrow in case you want to go :-)

I enticed my youngest to come with me by throwing in lunch (!) Turns out he loved the fair, especially the crystals and a beautiful painting of a herd of deer in a forest.

As Aristotle said, ‘In all things of nature there is something of the marvellous’

Nature-inspired art is a fantastic way of connecting with the natural environment. Next on our list is the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum, London 📸

Are there any others you know about? 🌿💚

The current heatwave here in the U.K. is the perfect invitation to slow down and pause for a moment or two…

✅ TRY one of these mindful moments:

💨 Slow breaths in and out ➡️ COOLS the body in 2 minutes

🦅 Spend a few minutes looking at clouds, birds, or leaves moving in the wind ➡️ gently slows your thinking and heart rate (which can rise in very hot weather)

🌳 Lie or sit beneath a tree, where the temperature is cooler. Engage your senses as you focus on what you can see (leaves shimmering in the sunlight, hear (leaves moving in the breeze) and see (vibrant colours) ➡️ a great way to feel calmer & cooler.

Enjoy 🫶🏻

Summer Solstice blessings to you all! 🌞

Thank you W A S I N G for inviting me to experience the Solstice in your beautiful grounds. I especially loved…

🌲 Forest Bathing with Tanya beside a 1,000 year old ‘grandmother’ Yew tree

💙 Wild swimming

🪈 Grounding beneath the trees (I loved the flautist…)

🌞 Sun meditation

Honouring the longest day doesn’t have to be ceremonial or complicated, it can be doing anything you usually enjoy in the summertime (a bbq or picnic; lying in a hammock…) just doing them mindfully and with appreciation ✨

I’m not a fan of pleached trees so when I recently noticed that our neighbour’s tree had broken free of its rigid framework holding it ‘in place’ (second photo onwards), I have to admit I was delighted! 🫶🏻

Further delight came from seeing a number of roses that had started to climb up onto the frame within the tree 🌹 which to me was a lovely reminder that no matter how much people try to shape or influence us with their own beliefs, we will always find a way to reveal our true spirit in the end 🌳

(in case you’re wondering about my dislike of pleached trees it’s because they aren’t the best choice for wildlife gardens and are often used for ascetic purposes instead - no offence intended if you have pleached trees!)
✅ For wildlife-friendly hedging, try Hawthorn instead :-)

Since launching our Mindfulness in Nature accredited course for young children some three years ago I have seen a massive decline in older children’s mental health here in the UK, as I’m sure you have.

This is largely driven by too much screen time and social media, academic pressure and exams, and other pressures such as high unemployment rates and living costs for the over 16s.

Whilst not all of these factors are new, the huge reductions in mental health services are leaving parents exacerbated and teenagers with fewer resources, increased anxiety and depression and untreated symptoms.

But! It is not all doom and gloom. ✅ There is something we can collectively do to help teens and that is taking them out into Nature - to feel calmer, more connected, more fulfilled, more grounded and therefore - less anxious and stuck in their thoughts, less overwhelmed as they realise they are part of something bigger than just themselves

Of course all of these benefits are felt by us too - whether you’re an educator, health professional, parent or practitioner, spending time in nature reduces stress and can prevent burnout, whilst shared mindful activities in nature build connection and a sense of calm community 💗

Staring at shimmering water activates our parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and digest” state). It causes a measurable drop in cortisol (stress hormone), lowers our heart rate, and shifts our brain waves into a mild, meditative state ✨

Why not give it a try ✅

✅ 2-5 minutes ✨ will provide a quick mental reset

✅ 20 minutes ✨✨ achieves maximum drops in cortisol and creates a significant shift from “fight-or-flight” to relaxation.

💙 2 hours per week in, on, or around “blue spaces” is recommended for better overall health

Graduation! 🎓

A special day celebrating our eldest, who’s spent the past 4 years living & studying in Virginia.

It’s not his degree I’m most proud of (definitely not going to be shouting about that on here) but the way in which he has grown into a kind, gentle, authentic, and thoughtful human being.

That is worth celebrating every day 🙏🏻💞

Photos include: 🎈 balloon parade - each graduate chooses balloons that are personal to them (spot Luka’s Union Jack 🇬🇧) & at the end of the parade all 12,000 balloons (!) are delivered to the children’s hospital. 🌳 UVA’s beloved Gingko tree (last photo) planted in 1860. It successfully survived a devastating fire in 1895 and is even equipped with its own lightning rod! 🫶🏻

A small London Rose garden 🌹 situated within the remains of an old church (& flanked by corporate buildings) could easily be overlooked as a place to connect with nature…so, when I was asked by Sara of to facilitate a 2 hour Mindfulness in Nature session here for a group of women, I had to think a little differently…here’s what we did ➡️

✋🏻🤚🏻 Grounding - placing our hands on this beautiful stone church wall, whilst holding an awareness of the churchyard’s significant history
🔎Then shifting our attention to what we could see within the wall - can you spot these 🫶🏻💋👂🏻 in the photos?

🌺 Noticing tiny details in the flowers - including a miniature spider 🕷️

🌳 Connecting with the trees around us, feeling grounded

🎨 Creating memories of our shared experience

This event was sponsored by and took place at Christchurch Greyfriar’s churchyard, next to St Paul’s Cathedral. Only part of this beautiful Christopher Wren church still stands, after being bombed in WW2. The rectangular flowerbeds (second to last photo) have been thoughtfully planted in what would have been the nave of the church. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in London 🫶🏻

On my daughter’s 19th bday, sharing her love of nature, especially sunsets & sunrises 🌅 with some photos she recently took in South America.

Notice the tiny (circled) heart in the final photo. She spotted it after taking the picture, and rushed over to the couple to share it with them 🫶🏻

🌅 Watching a sunrise (or even the way sunlight filters through a canopy of leaves) can activate our sixth sense - of awe - and when we experience awe, this can lead to a deep sense of gratitude, greater peace, clarity and wellbeing in our lives.

➡️ All of this & much more is in our Mindfulness in Nature for Teens CPD accredited training program, coming 🔜 (this June) 🌿😊
