Do you want to learn some simple signs with us?

On the 15th of September, we are holding our Signalong Session, which is a simpler form of sign language used alongside speech to help people communicate. This session will introduce you to the basic signs and practice how to communicate with others.

This session is taught by Kirsty Savidge, a Speech and Language Therapist at HMR Community Learning Disability Team.

Dates for your diary for September!
We have an array of different courses this month.

Our Springhill Palliative Care Education Passport starts again for its first cohort, with Module one beginning on the 9th September.

Kirsty Savidge is back with another Signalong Session. This was a very popular course we offered back in February, and we have decided to do another session.

Verification of Expected Death is a course for experienced, Registered Nurses and will take place on the 17th.

We have our regular Syringe Pump and Symptom Management course on the 22nd, and finally, we have the Advanced Diploma in End of Life Care, taught in partnership with the University of Greater Manchester on the 23rd.

This is Akosua, one of our passport students from last year. She completed our Springhill Palliative Care Passport, and did it to a very high standard! She then went on to study palliative care further by completing The Multidisciplinary End of Life Module we deliver in partnership with The University of Greater Manchester.

We're hosting another Signalong Session!

Join us on Tuesday 15th September at our Education Unit for an hour and a half session that will introduce you to Signalong and Makaton, simplified sign language used alongside speech to help people communicate.

Our session is taught by Kirsty Savidge, who is a Speech and Language Therapist from the HMR Community Learning Disability Team.

This session is just £5 to attend, and as always, all proceeds go towards funding oustanding end-of-life care for those in HMR.

Our Medication Administration course is available to book for Wednesday 2nd of September.

This course is a 5 hour session, ensuring healthcare staff gain the skills and confidence they need to handle medication safely and competantly.

Topics covered:
-Legal & Professional Responsibilities
-Medication Types & Classifications
-Safe Storage, Handling & Disposal
-Administration Procedures
-Recording & Reporting
-Infection Control & PPE
-Practical Assessments

This training ensures you are compliant with CQC, HSE and Skills for Care Regulations.

It starts at 9:30am and will finish around 2:30pm. The session costs £35 per person, or groups of 8 may book for a discounted price of £250.

Join us on the 18th August (next Tuesday) and our Oral Care Expert, Amanda, for a short but very informative workshop.

We recommend that everyone who is providing care to someone, especially at end of life, needs to have the essential skills to give effective oral care.

Poor oral care can lead to painful infections, xerostomia, ulcers, sores and many more uncomfortable and distressing side effects. This training gives you the skills and knowledge needed to prevent these and give excellent oral care to those you care for.
