My mind has been spinning many, many loops and hoops of late. It’s thrilling and enlivening again.
Which is great, because for a long while I was too exhausted even for that, and all parts of me constantly craved quiet and absolutely minimal stimulation.
Welcome to the world of being highly neurodivergent (tho it took me the last 3 years to fully realise this) AND balancing a cupful of spoons which have actually been dropped on entry into perimenopause.
Yes, my cupful of spoons fell on the floor. And I couldn’t pick them up. If I wanted one, I’d have to scrabble for it and hope it was clean and usable.
Today, I am mentally exhausted from all the looping and hooping my brain has been doing, late into the night when all attempts at sleeping came to very little. In good news though, I was struck with this little pithy “elevator speech” out of the blue just as I was finally settling down to snooze. And even better for me, I tapped it into my notes as a headline so@I wouldn’t forget or lose it.
I’ve only just found it. And so I thought I’d share it with you.
As I navigate the ridiculousness of the art world and a 3rd rejection from the Arts Council for R&D funding (their feedback this year was supremely helpful - they had a lot of applications basically), I have found myself in a multitude of quandaries. Namely:
1. I’m not built for the “art world”, and definitely not the “funding world”.
2. I’m also NOT built to be an entrepreneur in any way, shape or form,
And 3. I literally can live my life any other way than creating art and existential writings, with a smattering of secretive magical realism novels on the side.
So what’s the answer?
Postcards accepted gratefully. And also, a huge shoutout to whose brilliantly comforting tales of neurodiversity and neurodivergence are actually keeping me sane right now (“Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal”), as well as helping me navigate my own way forward as a misfit creative in these ridiculous times. Also I’m seeing him tonight at in conjunction with my favourite bookshop ever 😍💖🔥.
Seriously, postcards welcome. And an aircraft hanger to display my work 😅😝.
