Remember when you thought the toddler years were the hard bit?

Then your child became a teenager...

Now every conversation feels like a battle, "fine" has 17 different meanings, and you've somehow become the most embarrassing person on the planet just by breathing.

Teenagers are brilliant. They're funny, thoughtful, passionate and they're also trying to figure out who they are in a world that can feel pretty overwhelming.

And while everyone asks how they're doing, parents are often quietly carrying the worry, second guessing every decision and wondering if they're getting it right.

That's where counselling can help.

I specialise in supporting adolescents and their families, offering a safe, non-judgemental space to navigate the ups, downs and everything in between.

Because parenting teenagers doesn't come with subtitles... but it doesn't have to be something you figure out alone. 🌻

When my little boy was born, I was terrified.

Not just by the huge responsibility of becoming a mum, but by the fear that I simply wasn't good enough.

And then there was something I felt deeply ashamed of...

I didn't feel the overwhelming love I'd been told would happen the moment he arrived.

Everyone else seemed to be talking about how magical motherhood was. So I smiled, nodded along and told people everything was wonderful.

Inside, I was quietly drowning.

Looking back now, I know those feelings weren't a sign that I was a bad mum. They were a sign that I needed support.

Becoming a parent is one of life's biggest transitions. It can bring joy, love and wonder, but it can also bring fear, self-doubt, anxiety and loneliness. The pressure to "get it right" can feel overwhelming.

And despite what we're often led to believe, that bond with your baby doesn't always happen instantly, especially when you're struggling. That doesn't mean you've failed, and it certainly doesn't mean you won't become an incredible parent.

Today, that tiny baby is an amazing 8-year-old, and the love I have for him is beyond anything I could have imagined.

If you're reading this while wondering whether you're enough, or feeling like everyone else is coping better than you are, please know this:

You are not alone, and you don't have to carry it all by yourself.

I offer one-to-one counselling for mums who need a safe, compassionate space to talk without judgement.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some images of the space at the Nebula centre where I hold a lot of my face to face sessions.

Surrounded by nature, with the sound of birdsong, it’s definitely a place that brings me peace.

The pressure some of my young people in year 11 are feeling is really intense right now.

They’re already feeling it from peers and school, so keeping home a place of reassurance and support can make a huge difference in their response to this stressful time. 🌻

You might feel like you’re losing your teenager right now. They stay in their room. They don’t talk like they used to. Everything turns into an argument or silence and you’re left wondering:

What’s going on with them? Did I do something wrong?

Often, underneath this is overwhelm, anxiety, or something they don’t yet have the words for.

Teenagers don’t always say “I’m struggling.”
Sometimes they show it through shutting down, anger, or pulling away.

🌻 Counselling can give them a space to talk, without pressure, without feeling judged, and without worrying about upsetting you.

If you’re worried about your teen, you’re not alone and support is available.

If you or your teen need support, I’m available for a free 20 minute telephone consultation. 🌻

Low mood and the body

Waking up each morning, bone tired. Not just “I need a coffee” tired, but heavy, slow, like your body is carrying something you can’t quite name. The kind of tired, where every step you take, feels like wading through mud.

You go through the motions, shower, get dressed, show up, but your body feels it.

Your shoulders hold tension you didn’t notice building. Your chest feels tight or shallow. You’re exhausted, even when you’ve rested.

Simple tasks take more energy than they should.
You might feel foggy, unmotivated, or quietly overwhelmed.

Low mood doesn’t just live in your thoughts.
It lives in your body too. It can look like:

• Constant tiredness
• Aches or tension
• Changes in sleep or appetite
• Low energy or motivation
• Feeling disconnected or “flat”

And it can feel confusing… especially when life on the outside seems “okay.”

If this feels familiar, there are small ways to begin supporting yourself:

• Gently move your body (even a short walk counts)
• Step outside and get some natural light
• Take a few slow, steady breaths to calm your system
• Keep your expectations realistic - doing something small is still something
• Talk to someone you trust, even if it feels hard

You don’t have to fix everything at once.
But you also don’t have to carry this alone. 🌻

Counselling gives you space to pause, understand what your body and mind are trying to tell you, and find ways to feel lighter, calmer, and more connected again.

Get in touch for a free, no pressure, telephone consultation, if you’d like to talk about support.
