Finally back after a brilliant break โ€” although my return journey took a little longer than planned thanks to the fun, fun, fun of cancelled flights! โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Iโ€™m now back at my desk, catching up and getting back into the swing of things.

If youโ€™ve emailed or messaged me while Iโ€™ve been away, thank you for your patience. ๐Ÿ’Œ I am working my way through everything and aim to get back to everyone by the end of the week.

Thanks for bearing with me while I catch up โ€” itโ€™s lovely to be back. ๐Ÿ’™

I came across this quote today and whereas I donโ€™t believe we have to understand exactly why we experience the things we do. I do believe that what we survive can become the place from which we offer compassion.

For many therapists, this work feels like more than a job. It feels like a calling. A pull toward sitting with pain, holding space for what feels unbearable, and reminding people that they donโ€™t have to carry it alone.

I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to search for someone who could hold the weight of my thoughts, my pain, and my story.
I know what it feels like to be in the dark.

Whether you believe in God, the universe, or simply the power of human connection โ€” sometimes the very thing that tried to break us becomes the thing that allows us to help others heal.

๐ŸŒฟ This painting really made me stop and think.

I noticed how quickly I started making assumptions about the two men.

One is carefully tending his garden, making sure everything is just right. ๐ŸŒฑ The other is asleep in a chair, with a child's bike sitting nearby. ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿ’ค

My mind immediately started creating stories.

Maybe the older man feels most like himself when he's busy, productive or keeping everything in order. Maybe that's where his sense of worth comes from. Or maybe he simply loves gardening and finds peace in it. ๐Ÿ’š

Then there's the man asleep.

How easy is it to think, "He's being lazy."

But what if this is his only day off? What if he's worked hard all week, spent the morning with his children, and has simply fallen asleep because he's exhausted? โ˜€๏ธ

The truth is... we don't know.

That's what I love about this painting. It reminds me how often we fill in the gaps with our own assumptions.

As a therapist, I'm reminded that we only ever see a tiny snapshot of someone's life. We don't see what happened before that moment, what they're carrying, or what they've had to overcome.

It also made me wonder about the messages we've all absorbed about our worth.

Do we believe we're valuable because we're productive? Because we're always doing something? Because everything looks just right?

Or can we believe we're worthy, even when we're resting? ๐Ÿค

I'd love to know what you noticed when you looked at this painting. What story did your mind create first? ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’› These little peg dolls have become a really useful resource to use in my therapy room.

Many of them have been painted by clients, with a few made by my own family too, so each one is completely unique. ๐ŸŽจ

I often use them when we're exploring different stages of someone's life โ€“ perhaps their younger self, their teenage self, and who they are today.

For many people, especially those working through childhood trauma, it can be incredibly difficult to look back at those younger versions of themselves with kindness or compassion. Using a wooden doll to represent themselves can make those conversations feel a little less overwhelming.

I've found that seeing themselves almost in the third person, through the peg doll, often makes it easier to explore difficult memories, understand what they were feeling at the time, and begin responding to themselves with the compassion they may never have received. โค๏ธ

It's always so powerful to witness those moments when someone starts to see their younger self differentlyโ€”not with blame or criticism, but with understanding and kindness.

They're also a brilliant resource in play therapy, giving younger clients a natural and safe way to express thoughts, feelings and experiences that can be difficult to put into words. ๐Ÿงธ

Sometimes the simplest resources can open up the biggest conversations. ๐ŸŒฑ

๐ŸŒฟ Protect your peace. Protect your happy place. ๐Ÿ’š

In ny garden, before I I head off to work this Saturday morning, I wanted to leave you with a gentle reminderโ€ฆ

Your peace is precious. Not everyone deserves access to your time, your energy, or your heart. Boundaries aren't walls to keep people outโ€”they're healthy doors that let the right people in. ๐Ÿšชโœจ

It's okay to say no. It's okay to step back. It's okay to choose the people and places that help you feel safe, valued, and at peace. ๐ŸŒธ

Your well-being matters. Protect your happy place, because when you look after yourself, you're better able to show up for everyone else too. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒผ
Wishing you a peaceful weekend. ๐ŸŒฟโ˜€๏ธ

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’™ As therapists, we spend our days supporting the wellbeing of othersโ€”but it's just as important to nurture our own. Today, my gorgeous friend and colleague and I took some time to slow down, breathe in the sea air, and enjoy a mindful walk along the beach. ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Self-care isn't a luxuryโ€”it's an essential part of staying grounded, present, and able to show up for the people we support.

Sometimes the best therapy is fresh air, meaningful conversation, and a reminder that we all need moments to recharge. ๐Ÿ’›

People-pleasing isnโ€™t a personality flaw. Itโ€™s often something we learn for very understandable reasons.๐Ÿค

Saying no doesn't always feel like a simple decision. For many people, it comes with guilt. ๐Ÿ˜”

The guilt isn't usually because you've done something wrong. It's often because, somewhere along the way, you learned that keeping other people happy was more important than listening to your own needs.

Maybe you became the peacemaker. ๐Ÿค
Maybe you learned not to make a fuss. ๐Ÿค
Maybe saying yes felt safer than risking disappointment or conflict.

Those patterns can stay with us long into adulthood.

But every time you say yes when you really mean no, you're teaching yourself that everyone else's needs matter more than your own.

Healthy boundaries aren't about pushing people awayโ€”they're about making room for yourself too. ๐ŸŒฑ

โœจ A question to reflect on today: What would change if you believed that saying "no" didn't make you selfish... it made you honest? ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Meet Bobby ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Many of my clients have already had the pleasure of meeting Bobby, and he's becoming a much-loved part of the therapy room. You can always request Bobby to join your sessions at my Wallasey Village practice.

Bobby has a wonderful way of helping people feel safe and at ease. Whether you're a young person or an adult, he loves nothing more than curling up on a lap, enjoying a gentle stroke, and quietly keeping you company while you share your story.

The calming presence of animals has been shown to help reduce stress, ease anxiety, and create a sense of comfort. Sometimes having a friendly, non-judgmental companion in the room can make it just that little bit easier to talk.

If you'd like Bobby to be part of your therapy session, simply let me know . He'll be more than happy to come along. ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ
