2 years ago, I birthed my youngest boy, Wren. It was the most amazing and empowering experience of my life. Here's some tools I used in my freebirth.
- staying upright. 🌿 I spent most of my labour on the toilet! It sounds strange, but it's a great position for active labour. Your lower muscles are used to being relaxed in this position, and it opens up the pelvis to make the most room for baby to come down and out. When I wasn't on the toilet, I was standing and swaying.
- birth affirmations. ❤️ as the labour was so fast, it was very intense and powerful. I could feel him drop down with every surge. I used labour affirmations audio to keep me feeling strong and powerful. " My body was built to do this."My surges can not be stronger than me because they are me." "I am powerful."Each surge brings me closer to meeting my baby" ...
Visualisation 👁 🧠 with each surge, i imagined a wave getting bigger and bigger, crashing down at the peak and then slowly dissipating and lapping at my feet in the surf. This helped me to ride out the powerful sensation and focus on the feeling getting less and less intense.
- breathwork 🌬 for each surge i breathed in for 4 and out for 7. This helped keep me calm and relaxed instead of tense so that my body could work efficiently and effectively.
- knees in feet out birthing 👶 when it was time to bring wren into the world, I had my upper body supported by the seat of the sofa, with my knees together and feet apart. This position optimises space in the lower pelvis for the baby to come through. I took deep, long breaths, and he flew out in 2 contractions.
If you wish to have a homebirth, freebirth, midwife unit birth, hospital birth or a cesarean, and want it to be an empowering and positive experience, drop me a message and i can work with you to show you how to work WITH your body, build trust in it and have an empowering experience you will never forget. 🌹🌿
Happy birthday, wren. You bring so much mischief and chaos into our life... but also so many laughs, smiles, cuddles, and kisses. I love you ❤️🌹
