Something new is coming to The Curiosity Mill this September. 🌿

I'm so excited to be bringing three different Discovery Nook sessions to the Mill on Wednesday mornings — each designed around a different stage of childhood, but all rooted in the same belief:

Children are naturally curious. Give them the time, space and freedom to explore, and incredible things can happen.

✨ Discovery Explorers | 9:30–11am
Open-ended play for curious explorers, with full use of the Mill and thoughtfully prepared invitations from The Discovery Nook.

🤍 Discovery Babies | 11:30am–12:30pm
A slower-paced session for babies and their grown-ups, with sensory exploration, connection and time to discover at their own pace.

🔎 Discovery Investigators | 1–3pm
Big questions, open-ended play and hands-on exploration for curious older children.

All three sessions are small, relaxed and play-based, with carefully prepared environments and plenty of space for children to follow their own interests.

🌿 Something new is coming to The Discovery Nook…

From September, I'll be bringing The Discovery Nook to The Curiosity Mill in Leigh every Wednesday. ✨

Three different sessions, designed for different stages of childhood — from babies discovering the world around them, to curious older children asking big questions and getting stuck into hands-on investigations.

The sessions will be small, relaxed and child-led, with full use of the wonderful Curiosity Mill alongside thoughtfully prepared invitations from The Discovery Nook.

We don't plan what a child will do. We plan what might be possible. 💭

The Curiosity Mill feels like such a natural home for this approach — a space already filled with open-ended possibilities for children to explore, experiment, create and follow their own ideas.

It's been a busy week at The Discovery Nook! 🌿

Our Discovery Play sessions have been in full swing, with little explorers stepping into different story worlds and following their own ideas through open-ended play.

We've explored woodland worlds, discovered rainbows, built, created, investigated... and I've also been taking The Discovery Nook out on the road with a little pop-up play! 🌱

There's something rather lovely about seeing the same philosophy work in different spaces — from a carefully prepared room at the library to play spread out across the grass.

And this week we're heading back into the woods for Trees 🌳

Inspired by I See a Tree, we'll be exploring woodland wildlife, natural materials, small worlds and the journey from tiny acorn to towering tree.

🌿 Afternoon Play at The Curiosity Mill 🌿

I'm delighted to be hosting a special afternoon session at The Curiosity Mill on Wednesday 19th August.

I'll be welcoming families for a relaxed afternoon of open-ended play, using the wonderful Curiosity Mill environment and resources that so many local families already love.

Children will be free to explore, create and discover at their own pace before we finish with refreshments and a story together.

✨ Ages 0–6

🌿 I'm so excited to be joining this fantastic community fun day on Saturday 8th August!

I'll be bringing a calm, countryside-themed Discovery Nook play space for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to explore during the quieter hour from 11am, and families are welcome to visit throughout the day too.

Expect open-ended play, a countryside small world, a teddy bears' picnic play scene, construction resources, loose parts and sensory exploration – all thoughtfully curated to encourage children to explore at their own pace.

If you're local, I'd love to see you there! 💚

🌿 Every treasure basket tells a different story.

I love choosing a mix of textures, materials, sounds and even smells to spark curiosity and encourage little ones to explore with all of their senses.

There's no right or wrong way to use a treasure basket. One child might be drawn to the shiny sensory sound button, another to the pine cone... and yes, some will make a beeline for the little yellow duck! 🦆

Looking for a calmer kind of play session this summer?

If busy play centres leave your little one overwhelmed, or you're looking for something that feels a little different, The Discovery Nook offers a calmer space to explore, play and discover together.

Every session begins with a story, then children are free to explore seven different play zones at their own pace. Whether they love building, creating and imaginative play, or prefer climbing, reading, exploring or simply watching before joining in, there's something for every stage from babies to pre-schoolers.

I've put together this little guide so you can see exactly what to expect before you book.

🌱 New for September – Discovery Maths is coming to Stockton Heath!

Following my first Maths Confidence Club pilot, I’m really excited to be bringing the sessions to Stockton Heath Library from September.

Maths Confidence Club is designed for children who benefit from learning maths in a different way — through games, practical resources, problem-solving and hands-on learning, all within a supportive small-group environment.
