This is Lee from Waterlooville, Portsmouth.

Two years ago, Lee found himself in such a dark place that he attempted to take his own life.

Thankfully, Lee is still here. ❤️

Today he works for the NHS, and instead of hiding what he went through, he’s decided to use one of the darkest times of his life to help other men who may be struggling in silence.

He’s started a men’s group called I’m here mate.

Because men don’t always say “I’m struggling.”
They don’t always say “I need help.”

Sometimes the conversation can start with just three words:

💙 “I’m here, mate.”

The group offers free relaxed meet-ups, walks and activities — somewhere men can make friends, have a laugh, talk without judgement or simply be around other people.

You don’t have to be in crisis to need someone.

So tonight, check on your mates.

The quiet one.
The one going through a tough time.

And check on the one who’s always laughing too.

Send that message:

“Alright mate? I’m here.”

💛 WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY 💛

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

This year’s message is “Changing the Narrative on Su***de”, with a simple but incredibly important call to action: Start the Conversation. (World Health Organization)

And that message sits at the very heart of what I’m here mate is about.

Sometimes it doesn’t take a big speech. It doesn’t take having all the answers. It can start with one message:

“You okay mate?”

And if the answer is “Not really”, be the mate who stays. Listen. Don’t judge. Don’t try to fix everything. Just remind them:

“I’m here mate.” 💙

You never truly know what someone is dealing with behind closed doors. The mate who is always laughing, always joking and seemingly has everything together could be fighting a battle that nobody else knows about.

So this World Su***de Prevention Day, check in on your mates. And don’t just ask once. Start a real conversation.

That’s exactly why I’m here mate exists — to bring men together through conversations, group walks and activities, and to create a space where men can talk without judgement.

One message. One conversation. One life.

“You okay mate?” It’s only three words, but for someone who’s struggling, they could mean everything.

I’m here mate was created with one simple mission: to remind men that they never have to face life alone. Too many men suffer in silence, believing they have to keep everything bottled up. We want to change that - one text, one chat, one walk, one conversation at a time.

Whether you’re having the best day of your life or the worst, there’s always someone who’ll listen. Send the message. Make the call. Check in on your mate. You never know how much they needed to hear from you today.

Because one message really could save your mate’s life. 💙
