It's an established fact that reports of domestic violence increase around sports tournaments. Increased alcohol consumption during games can be a driver for this, and that's why some studies suggest that it doesn't even matter whether the perpetrators team wins or loses. One study showed that when England win, reports increased by 26%, and a loss meant a 38% increase. That's not even close to what's really happening behind closed doors.

If you, or someone you know needs support, please tap my link in bio for resources.

No matter what happens during this tournament, or at any other time, you deserve safety.

I work with people who are so good at explaining what's happened to them. They know all the tools: breathing exercises, eating well, going for a stupid mental health walk and talking to a therapist, but they just don't feel better.

They feel numb and disconnected, or they're having panic attacks as their world gets smaller and smaller. They don't understand why their tools aren't working.

It's often because they're trying to bypass the actual feeling of the feelings. Trying to squash down, box up, rationalise. In somatic therapy I help people learn to trust that their body will take care of them. Feeling the unpleasant, challenging, messy sensations of sadness, anger, frustration, disappointment and grief will not last forever. It's hard, it hurts, but they can feel them and still be ok.

Being regulated means being able to move through all of the sticky, tricky, messy, human stuff and come out the other side in one piece.

The only way out is through ❤️

If there's one thing you can count on in life, it's that everything changes, all the time.

So if things are really tough right now, you can hold on to the fact that it won't stay this way forever.

For me, it helps to take action, even a small thing can help me feel more in control, and give me back some power.

What helps you?

You've weathered storms before. You can do it again 💪🏻❤️

Mental Health Awareness Week 💚 Samantha Eastwood Counselling Sarah Cayton Psychotherapist, BWRT, Hypnotherapist, Hypno-Band Practitioner Abbie Franklin Tonic Hypnotherapy @

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health. This week is a reminder to check in with yourself and those around you — a simple “How are you, really?” can make a big difference.

It’s okay to not have everything figured out. It’s okay to take a break. And it’s okay to ask for help.

Let’s keep the conversation going, reduce stigma, and support one another — not just this week, but every day.

I took a little hiatus from social media, and I'm ready to dip my toe back in so here I am!

Towards the end of last year I started to realise I'd been running on empty for quite some time. After some health issues and getting my house ready to put up for sale, work and just the busy-ness of life in general, something had to give.

We're not supposed to be doing it all, all of the time. It's ok to let some of those spinning plates drop sometimes. I'm still learning how to pace myself, even after 8 years of chronic illness. I quite often get it wrong. But I'm practicing and learning all the time.

So, I'm back, ready to try again, without the pressure I was putting myself under before.

We're all a work in progress, and that's ok!
