British Blind Sport want to hear about the sport and physical activity preferences of blind and partially sighted people across the UK. - Survey closes 3rd November 2026.

Their research study will be conducted in two parts:
1. An online survey, open to blind and partially sighted people of all ages.
2. A series of in-person focus groups in a number of locations.

The findings of this important research will directly shape BBS’s future work, including the sports clubs it supports through its VI Active Together programme, the delivery of multi-sport and sport specific Have a Go Days, and how the organisation priorities relationships with National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs).

Provide valuable insight from your experience of sport and physical activity here:

There’s still time to take part in our research project.

British Blind Sport (BBS) wants to hear about the sport and physical activity preferences of blind and partially sighted people across the UK, particularly those who are currently mildly active/inactive and not engaged with our organisation.

Our research study will be conducted in two parts:
1. An online survey, open to blind and partially sighted people of all ages from 1st September-3rd November 2026
2. A series of in-person focus groups in a number of locations starting in Manchester and followed by Coventry, Warwickshire, Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham, Liverpool and Preston.

The findings of this important research will directly shape BBS’s future work, including the sports clubs it supports through its VI Active Together programme, the delivery of multi-sport and sport specific Have a Go Days, and how the organisation priorities relationships with National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs).

We would be grateful if you could share the link to our survey with any family members, friends or colleagues who you think could provide us with valuable insights into their experience of sport and physical activity: πŸ‘‰ www.britishblindsport.org.uk/forms/view/sportpreferences

If you would like to join one of our in-person focus groups, please email Shamira Naidu-Young for more details on [email protected]

Last week we attended the Somerset Moves Strategy Partner Engagement event 2026 in Bridgewater - led by Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership - SASP. The event brought together colleagues from health, local government, education, community organisations, and sport and physical activity. It was an opportunity to learn, connect and help shape the future of physical activity across Somerset.

Ashley Harris, our strategic partnerships advisor for the South West, delivered two sessions linked to our 10 principles, designed to support sport and leisure providers to deliver more appealing and inclusive opportunities for disabled people. They are widely used by organisations in the sport and leisure sector. When embedded within planning and delivery, the principles can be the vital ingredient for delivering activities that will support disabled people to be and stay active for life.

You can learn more about our 10 principles on our website: https://www.activityalliance.org.uk/how-we-help/resources/4084-activity-alliance-ten-principles

🌍 WORLD SIGHT DAY 2026 πŸ‘οΈ

Today, on World Sight Day, we're recognising the importance of eye health, sight loss awareness, and creating opportunities that are accessible and inclusive for everyone. πŸ’™

This video highlights how a small adjustment can make a big difference.

Wayne attends our Inclusive Adult Session at Goldenstones Leisure Centre and has a profound visual impairment. To help him take part in Boccia, our Disability Projects Officer, Zoe, brought along a bell to help him locate the white ball during the game. πŸ”” πŸ™Œ

It's a great reminder that inclusion doesn't always require big changes. Sometimes, a simple adaptation is all that's needed to help someone feel welcome, confident, and able to take part.

Well done to Wayne and Zoe for showing how inclusive sport can work in practice! πŸŽ‰

🀟 Today is the International Day of Sign Languages.

As we mark this year's theme, "Declaring Deaf People's Human Rights", we're looking back at a brilliant moment from last year when our team signed their favourite sports in BSL.

SASP Inclusion Team members Carly and Tash had completed their BSL course, and it was fantastic to see them supporting with their signing.

This year's theme highlights the importance of recognising, protecting and promoting deaf people's rights in all areas of life, including access through national sign languages. In sport and physical activity, accessible communication helps create opportunities for everyone to participate, connect and belong.

πŸ’™ Together, we can help create more inclusive spaces where everyone has the opportunity to be active, be heard and thrive.

During the summer holidays, we had a brilliant time with Eleven Roller Disco practising our skills, having a go at the limbo and timing how fast we could skate! πŸ›Ό

The young people even managed to beat their original time! ⏱️
